Sashi Brown Says Browns Aren't Scared of Myles Garrett's Smack Talk, Predictions

Joseph ZuckerMay 11, 2017

Cleveland Browns executive vice president of football operations Sashi Brown thought Myles Garrett's comments about Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger were much ado about nothing.

"We're not scared of it," Brown said Wednesday of Garrett's trash talk, per Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot. "Myles, if you go back and look at his [introductory] press conference, has the right amount of levity balancing that confidence."

On the day of the draft, Garrett told ESPN's Randy Moss he was looking forward to the chance to sack Roethlisberger (h/t Cabot): "Big Ben is a Super Bowl winner and I heard he's hard to take down. So, I'm coming for him first, [to] chop him down."

Roethlisberger took the comments in stride.

"I was talking to [center Maurkice Pouncey] after Garrett called me out," he said, per Ron Cook of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "Pounce got a big kick out of it. All of my linemen enjoyed hearing it. They can't wait to get started. I can't, either."

If anything, Brown and Cleveland's front office should welcome swagger from the No. 1 overall pick. To handle the pressure of being the top selection, Garrett will need to have no shortage of self-confidence.

Garrett should also want to beat the Steelers and knock Roethlisberger on his rear end at every opportunity.

Since re-entering the league in 1999, Cleveland is 6-31 head-to-head against Pittsburgh. And Roethlisberger has terrorized the Browns secondary in 23 meetings with Cleveland, throwing for 5,490 yards, 35 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.

Sure, Garrett could look foolish if the Steelers come into Cleveland in the first week of the regular season and continue their dominance over the Browns. But the Browns are already the butt of countless jokes among NFL fans, so nothing would change.

Should the Browns come out victorious over Pittsburgh—and if Garrett regularly harasses Big Ben in the pocket—it would suggest the franchise might be slowly closing the gap on its hated rival.
