Jamal Adams, New York Jets Agree to Rookie Contract
Jamal Adams' representation, Universal Sports Management, announced Thursday the 2017 first-round pick agreed to terms on his rookie contract with the New York Jets.
The Jets made Adams the No. 6 overall pick in the draft on April 27. He was a standout in three seasons at LSU, being named a first-team All-SEC player and a second-team All-American in 2016.

After Adams fell into New York's lap, Tim Rohan of TheMMQB.com noted the selection was celebrated within the organization and outside the league:
"This time, the Jets chose logic and reason over desperation. They chose Adams, the player who was firmly atop their draft board at the time, a physical safety who had a good chance of becoming a vocal leader on their team and cornerstone of their defense for years to come. The pick was immediately celebrated as [a] steal, and the Jets praised as smart. Mike Mayock, another NFL Network draft analyst, called Adams the 'safest pick in the draft.'”
Under terms of the NFL rookie wage scale, per Spotrac, the total value of Adams' rookie deal is $22.6 million with a $14.3 million signing bonus.
Coming off a 5-11 season in 2016, the Jets took steps to get younger in the offseason. They parted ways with aging, declining veterans like Ryan Fitzpatrick, Brandon Marshall, Nick Mangold and Darrelle Revis and didn't spend extravagantly in free agency.
As the Jets' first pick this year, Adams will be given the task of taking over as the defensive leader of the club in the years to come. He was a star in the SEC for three years and will have little trouble acclimating to his new surroundings now that he's officially under contract.
