6+5=? Fifa and Sepp Blatter attempt to solve this equation!
Yet again...
Every year it's something. Sepp giving his pennies worth. I think the funniest thing about it all is that some people actually take him, and his ideas, seriously! I was watching LFCTV earlier and both guests thought this would be a good idea! The first person I have heard speaking sense about the subject was actually Sir Alex!
Even then he was simply regurgitating Arsene Wenger, mumbling something about "the treaty of Rome" and politely waiting for David 'Red Sox' Frost (seriously, did you see his feet!) to slur his way through the next question!

Ultimately, despite the fact that the proposal is illegal, it is completely and utterly unworkable. Let me give an example.
Each of the 'Big Four', bar Arsenal have a number of English players who are mostly at the core of the team. Chelsea have Lampard, Terry, Good Cole and Bad Cole; United have Ferdinand, Rooney, Hargreaves (Fifa would have a right job deciding if he counted amongst the '6' or the '5'!) and Liverpool have Gerrard and Carragher. All these players are top quality players, I feel the term 'World Class' could be bandied about. I intentionally missed out Wes Brown and Michael Carrick!
I know that before the ruling all these clubs would invest in more home-grown talent but the main question is, "Are these players replacable?"
This ruling would mean that if either Gerrard or Lampard, truly great central midfield players for their clubs, got injured both Chelsea and Liverpool would be forced to replace them with automatically(if you agree they are the top two English midfielders) substandard footballers.
What good is this? Average reserve players are thrown into the first team with the added responsibility that they have to replace a legend and the burden of knowing that they are only in the team because of their nationality! This can't be good.
I realise that, especially in England, average English players are being replaced and surpassed by other equally average foreigners and that this is a problem. However, forcing clubs to start players is not the answer.
With the advent of (finally) seven Premiership substitutes Starting in August, I believe that match day squads could be regulated. For instance, if eight English players were required within the 18, every team would always have one English player starting, whilst keeping control of their team and allowing youngsters to be nurtured from the bench.
I think having six English players in every match-day squad of 18 would be a very good idea and would "help the national team" which is apparently the problem which needs the most attention compared even to poverty and fuel prices.
To 'sum' up, 6+5 is a problem which has no solution, except maybe for other clubs from other nations in the Champions League.
Surely Sepp wouldn't stoop so low?
