Former VCU PF Mo Alie-Cox Signs Contract with Indianapolis Colts

Former VCU basketball player Mo Alie-Cox has come to terms on a contract with the Indianapolis Colts, the team announced Friday.

ESPN's Rob Demovsky was the first to report the news Thursday. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo confirmed and added that Alie-Cox was signed as a tight end.

Alie-Cox spent four seasons with VCU at power forward, averaging 9.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game in 2016-17 as a senior.

Garafolo first reported that Alie-Cox intended to pursue an NFL career and planned to work out for teams on April 11.

Last year, Alie-Cox told Mike DeCourcy of Sporting News that he had a great deal of football experience despite not playing in college:

I played football for nine years growing up. I think I've still played football, the amount of years, longer than I played basketball. So growing up, that was something I always wanted to do. But I transferred to private school, we had like 200 kids, we didn't have a football team. So I just had to focus on basketball, and basketball is what brought me here.

"

Per Demovsky, Alie-Cox met with both the Colts and Seattle Seahawks.

Several athletes with basketball experience have gone on to enjoy success at tight end in the NFL, including Tony Gonzalez, Antonio Gates, Jimmy Graham and Julius Thomas.

Indianapolis traded Dwayne Allen to the New England Patriots this offseason, which means there is room for Alie-Cox to potentially make an impact behind Jack Doyle on the depth chart.
