Phil Jackson Says Carmelo Anthony Trade Would Require 'Significant Player'
If the New York Knicks are going to trade Carmelo Anthony this offseason, they don't appear willing to give the 10-time All-Star away.
During a press conference Friday, Knicks president Phil Jackson said the team would "like a significant player in return" if it deals Anthony, per ESPN's Ian Begley.
Begley also noted Jackson said the Knicks know what teams Anthony would approve a trade to based on discussions at the trade deadline in February.
During his exit meeting with Anthony, per Begley, Jackson said he told the Knicks star, "You don't want to end up your career not winning" a championship.
Per Mike Vorkunov of the New York Times, Jackson said he has "never criticized Carmelo. ... That's all supposition by papers. ... Holding the ball is not a criticism. That's what he does."
The Knicks finished this season 31-51 and missed the playoffs for the fourth straight year. Anthony has one more guaranteed year on his contract with an early termination option for the 2018-19 season and a full no-trade clause that will have to be worked out if he is going to be dealt.
