Alexis Sanchez Reportedly Offered £300K Per Week Contract to Stay with Arsenal

Matt JonesApr 13, 2017

Arsenal have reportedly offered star forward Alexis Sanchez a new contract worth £300,000 a week in an attempt to keep him at the football club.

According to an exclusive report from James Olley of the Evening Standard, the Gunners are desperate to keep the Chile international at the Emirates Stadium and are willing to make him the highest-paid player in the division's history.

According to the piece, Paul Pogba is earning the most of any player in the Premier League, taking home £290,000 every week at Manchester United.

"Sanchez is yet to respond to Arsenal's improved terms, but he is understood to be happy in London and has not made up his mind to depart," added Olley, who also suggested that Manchester City, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are all interested in signing the player.

Speculation about an exit from the Emirates Stadium in the summer has gathered pace in recent weeks regarding Sanchez, as his contract with the club is set to expire in 2018.

According to Olley, the Gunners are confident an agreement can be reached, although all is not well behind the scenes. Indeed, it's suggested Sanchez has upset some of his team-mates with his conduct; the 28-year-old has also reportedly asked for details as to whether manager Arsene Wenger will stay on and the club's transfer plans for the summer.

Although Sanchez's form has dropped off in recent weeks amid talks of fallouts and a stuttering Gunners side, he's proved himself a key man.

As noted by the Arsenal Twitter account, he was nominated for the PFA Player of the Year gong on Thursday:

With 18 goals scored and nine assists to his name—he's been involved in 44.4 per cent of Arsenal's goals this term—that's not a great surprise.

But the allure of Sanchez has always been that he's a complete package. Whether he's in form or not, the forward is willing to bound after lost causes, win the ball back high up the pitch and make selfless runs for the sake of his team-mates.

At times he is a one-man strike force, and there are not many players in the world capable of excelling in quite so many areas.

There have been some concerns emerging as of late, with Sanchez's usual impeccable standards dropping off.

John Cross of the Daily Mirror commented on how poor the forward was against City earlier this month:

Still, if Sanchez was to commit his future to Arsenal, that'd right a lot of the wrongs of the last couple of months. The player would be onside, a fractious fanbase would be a little more united and it'd be a sizeable statement of intent to the rest of the football world.

And whether Sanchez signs or not, the Gunners supporters will be delighted to see the club puff their chest out in terms of player retention.
