Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Michael Carrick, Hirving Lozano Rumours
Michael Carrick has revealed he won't join another club in England when his contract with Manchester United runs out this summer. The 35-year-old midfielder has said he's enjoyed his career at Old Trafford too much to play for one of the club's rivals.
Carrick told Sky Sports (h/t Alex Wood of the Daily Star): "It won't be anywhere else in England (next season), no, I've had too many good times here to do that elsewhere. I've said it for a number of months now, I'm just really enjoying playing football."

Carrick even appeared to leave the door open for possibly staying at Old Trafford next season: "I haven't really given much thought to it, I've just been playing and concentrating on what we can achieve this season. Anything else can be sorted out in good time."
Carrick staying would no doubt be welcomed since he remains a useful member of the squad. In particular, the veteran's range of passing from deep makes him arguably the best conductor of play in United's ranks.
However, it's not all been plain sailing for Carrick this season. He was singled out for criticism by Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News following his uneven distribution during a recent 0-0 home draw against West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League:
Carrick was also substituted at half-time during a 1-1 home draw with Liverpool and dropped for the subsequent league game against Stoke City earlier in the season, per Rob Dawson of the Manchester Evening News.
Even so, United still need a midfielder with Carrick's mix of playmaking and defensive qualities. The Red Devils' need for him has increased after selling Morgan Schneiderlin and letting Bastian Schweinsteiger go.
Ander Herrera has attempted to make the deep-lying role his own, but the Basque schemer is better suited further forward. There is still a place for Carrick with United, who should offer the decorated pass-master a new deal.
Hirving Lozano Talks Up United
Mexico international Hirving Lozano has revealed he would like to join United one day, according to an interview with Univision (h/t Ciaran Kelly of the Manchester Evening News): "The one I would like most is Manchester, I like this club a lot and it's a very important club."
Kelly noted how United have been strongly linked with the Pachuca striker in the past: "Jim Lawlor, the scout who unearthed Javier Hernandez in 2010, reportedly watched the Mexico international in action last summer."
The reference to United's former striker Javier Hernandez is telling. Hernandez won a pair of Premier League titles with the club after United unearthed the Mexico star seven years ago.
Current Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho has recently indicated United made a mistake selling Hernandez to Bayer Leverkusen in 2014, per James Ducker of the Daily Telegraph: "In the way we play at Old Trafford, in the way we dominate opponents, in the way we play in the box, I think Chicharito [Hernandez] would have 20 goals easy."

Mourinho was referencing Hernandez's knack for finishing as a sharp contrast to United's own problems in front of goal this season. Aside from Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is out of contract this summer, none of United's forwards have found the net regularly in the Premier League.
WhoScored.com has detailed how Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Wayne Rooney have all struggled for goals in England's top flight:
| Player | Appearances | Goals |
| Anthony Martial | 12(5) | 3 |
| Marcus Rashford | 13(11) | 3 |
| Wayne Rooney | 9(10) | 2 |
Mourinho's desire for more strikers could lead United to revisit the idea of signing Lozano. He is obviously willing to make the move but may not be the finished article the Red Devils need to seriously compete for the Premier League title next season.
Maintaining a credible title challenge next term will demand a deep and capable squad. It's one reason why keeping Carrick makes sense.
