Manchester City vs. Hull City: Team News, Preview, Live-Stream, TV Info

Rob BlanchetteApr 6, 2017

Manchester City welcome Hull City to the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday, as the Sky Blues chase down third-placed Liverpool.

The Reds are only two points ahead of manager Pep Guardiola's team, with both sides battling for a UEFA Champions League berth.

The Tigers escaped the clutches of the relegation zone on Wednesday, but a defeat to City could see them back in the bottom three if Swansea City earn victory at West Ham United.

Team News and Preview

As the season rushes toward a close, the battles at the top and bottom of the division focus players and supporters alike.

It has been a largely disappointing first campaign in charge for Guardiola, whose players have struggled with the weekly grind against tough sides like Hull.

The Tigers are in form under coach Marco Silva, who replaced Mike Phelan in January, but they are a less fearsome prospect on the road than at the KCOM Stadium. The visitors will be attempting to grab only their second away win of the league campaign.

City defeated Hull on their travels on Boxing Day, carving out a 3-0 victory. But that was before Silva's arrival, and the Portuguese has reinstalled the confidence his club desperately needs in order to avoid a return to the Championship.

According to Geoff Sweet of The Sun, Raheem Sterling could return to the starting lineup for the hosts. Wonderkid Gabriel Jesus is back in training after recovering from a fractured metatarsal, but Sergio Aguero is likely to continue as Guardiola's striker, with the Brazilian short of match practice.

Hull are waiting on the fitness of Abel Hernandez ahead of their visit to Eastlands. The attacker netted against Middlesbrough on Wednesday, but he left the pitch limping, per Sweet.

The No. 9 has featured in 20 Premier League games this term, according to WhoScored.com, scoring four goals and assisting on three occasions.

The Tigers will not expect to come away with any points from City, but Silva's tactical approach could damage Guardiola's intentions.

A point would be a fantastic achievement for Hull at this stage of the season, with a run of easier fixtures to come.

The Tigers have attractive home games against Watford and Sunderland pencilled in but face high-flying Tottenham Hotspur at the KCOM on the last day of the season.
