Ahmed Musa Upset over Reports of Arrest for Assaulting Wife, No Charges Filed

Rory MarsdenApr 6, 2017

Leicester City striker Ahmed Musa is reportedly considering taking legal action having been "very upset" by reports of his arrest on Wednesday morning on suspicion of assaulting his wife, Jamila, after which he was released without charge.

Musa's agent, Tony Harris, described reports as "inaccurate" and explained the situation as he viewed it, per the Guardian's Ed Aarons and Oluwashina Okeleji:

"

A row ensued between Musa and Jamila which drew the attention of neighbours and the police were notified. The police duly spoke with Musa along with a couple of witnesses in the house and have since closed the matter with no further action whatsoever as there is no case to answer. No charges were brought against Musa or his wife.

It’s normal for a couple to have a bit of a row now and again, however, Musa did not at any point hit his wife nor was he attacked by her. It was a mere domestic issue which has now been resolved and they are now talking again.

Per Aarons and Okeleji, the striker "has been in touch with his legal representatives to discuss potential action" over reporting of the incident.

Musa was not included in the Leicester squad that beat Sunderland 2-0 at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday.

According to The Independent's Jack de Menezes, he could then not be found at his Countesthorpe home by police, who had received "an allegation of domestic abuse against the Nigeria international."

De Menezes added that Musa was eventually arrested around 1 a.m. on Wednesday morning and taken for questioning, before being released without charge.

"A 24-year-old man was arrested yesterday morning at his home address near Leicester on suspicion of common assault," said a spokesman from Leicestershire Police, per Menezes.

Per De Menezes, a Leicester spokesman commented on behalf of the club that no action would be taken against Musa in relation to the incident:

"

We are aware that Ahmed Musa has today cooperated with a police inquiry relating to a disturbance in the early hours of this morning.

The inquiry has since been closed and no further action is to be taken. We see no reason for formal action internally, though Ahmed will be given the opportunity to discuss the matter with football management when the squad returns.

"

Leicester's next fixture is an away clash at Everton in the Premier League on Sunday, with the Foxes looking to earn a seventh win on the bounce in all competitions under manager Craig Shakespeare.

Musa is unlikely to start against the Toffees as he has been used only sparingly since Claudio Ranieri was sacked late in February.

The forward was signed by the Italian manager from CSKA Moscow for a club-record fee of £16 million last summer, but he has played only 14 minutes of football since Ranieri's dismissal.
