Manchester United Salvage 1-1 Draw vs. Everton on Last-Minute Penalty
Manchester United's Zlatan Ibrahimovic converted a late penalty to earn his side a point in Tuesday's Premier League match against Everton. The game finished 1-1.
Phil Jagielka gave the visitors the lead in the first half, taking advantage of some bad defending and a mistake from goalkeeper David De Gea.
United improved in the second half and pressed hard for an equaliser, with Ibrahimovic converting a last-minute penalty after Ashley Williams handled the ball. The Toffees man was red-carded.

As shared by United's official Twitter account, Anthony Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan did not make the starting XI:
Romelu Lukaku predictably led Everton's XI, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin moving back to the bench:
United started the match with plenty of possession but few chances, as Everton easily absorbed the pressure. Marcus Rashford's pace didn't lead to any troubles, and the youngster failed to pull the defence apart with his many runs.
The first chance fell to Jesse Lingard, who powered a shot wide, while on the other side of the pitch, Kevin Mirallas drew a fine save from De Gea.
The United stopper didn't look good conceding the opener a few minutes later, however. Ashley Williams found Jagielka after a corner, and the defender somehow fired the ball through De Gea's legs with an overhead kick. The Spain international should have claimed the ball himself but let Marcos Rojo deal with it, with poor results.
Paddy Power couldn't help themselves:
Bleacher Report UK joined in on the fun:
Ross Barkley went close to doubling the lead shortly after, blasting a shot into the side netting. Ander Herrera also went close, finding the crossbar.
The match was stopped shortly due to an injury for Joel Robles, who was fortunately able to continue and denied Herrera a goal with a fine save. Idrissa Gueye ended the half with a silly challenge that rightly earned him a yellow card, but overall, the Toffees survived comfortably.
Bleacher Report UK's Nick Akerman thought United had the look of a team who no longer believe in their Premier League chances:
Manager Jose Mourinho made one change at half-time, bring in Paul Pogba for Daley Blind.
Everton frustrated the Red Devils and did a solid job limiting space, but Pogba still threatened after 55 minutes, hitting the woodwork with a header.
Ibrahimovic was kept fairly quiet, and after Mirallas refused to give the visitors the ball back after a drop ball, the Swede stole the headlines for a reason other than his play, per Sport Witness:
Gareth Barry put De Gea to work with a header, and Marouane Fellaini should have done better from close range, pushing the ball wide.
Ibrahimovic thought he had equalised after 70 minutes with a pretty diving header, but the linesman decided otherwise, judging him offside. Replays showed it was the correct decision but not by much.
Fellaini and Rojo had good chances to tie things up as time wore down, but Everton stood firm until injury time. Williams stuck out an arm to deny Luke Shaw, giving the official no choice but to award a penalty and show him a red card.
Sports writer James McNicholas gave his thoughts:
Ibrahimovic converted, putting the final score on the board.
As shared by Squawka News, Mourinho was not happy with the officiating after the match:
Per Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News, Everton boss Ronald Koeman spoke about United's tactics and how they suited the Toffees:
United's next outing will be at Sunderland, while Everton host Leicester.
