LeSean McCoy's Bills Offseason Program Absence Reportedly Not Contract-Related
LeSean McCoy's absence from the Buffalo Bills' offseason program isn't contract-related, Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reported Tuesday.
The Buffalo News' Jay Skurski reported Monday the veteran running back was the only player who failed to appear for the start of the team's voluntary conditioning program.
Skurski noted McCoy's son had his fifth birthday Monday, which could be a reason for his absence. McCoy shared a post on Instagram in which he read a birthday card with his son:

Bills first-year head coach Sean McDermott didn't sound worried the situation would turn into a bigger issue.
"It's voluntary," McDermott said, per Skurski. "I am encouraged by my conversations with LeSean throughout the whole offseason since I got the job. It is voluntary, though. That is what it is. I'm encouraged by the guys that are here, and that's really where my focus is at this time."
McCoy is signed for three more years, and his $6 million base salary is third-highest among running backs in 2017, per Spotrac. According to Over the Cap, though, none of the roughly $18 million McCoy is set to earn over the remainder of his contract is guaranteed.
It wouldn't be surprising if the 28-year-old wanted to rework his deal to receive more guaranteed money, much as Marshawn Lynch did with the Seattle Seahawks.
McCoy is coming off a strong 2016 season. He ran for 1,267 yards and 13 touchdowns and caught 50 passes for 356 yards and a touchdown. His 1,623 yards from scrimmage were his most since 2013.
The Bills will need McCoy to play a big role in the offense again, so avoiding any sort of contract dispute would be a good thing for Buffalo.
