Winks enjoyed a breakout season in 2016-17, as his playing time and his role gradually increased. With the Premier League season reaching its conclusion, his injury comes at a particularly bad time for Spurs.
The 21-year-old has long been touted as one of the finest talents in Tottenham's academy and has worked with the senior team since the 2013-14 campaign. Most of his appearances this season have come off the bench.

Central midfield is a deep position for Spurs, with Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele the regular starters. England internationals Eric Dier and Dele Alli can also provide cover, although they have spent more time in other positions this season.
Even summer signing Moussa Sissoko is an option, even if the France international hasn't played all that much.
Winks' defensive prowess and passing range made him a valuable part of the group, however, and a useful substitute in case Spurs are defending a lead. Without the youngster, the side will find it a lot more difficult to hold onto late leads.
