Jose Mourinho Laments Lack of Consistency, Official After West Brom Draw
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho didn't hold back after his team's scoreless draw against West Bromwich Albion during Saturday's Premier League action, taking a shot at the lack of consistency of some of his players and official Mike Dean.
As reported by Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News, Mourinho was not satisfied with the performance of several of his players:
"In football, especially in teams that want to win things you need consistency in the individuals. In some others clubs and some teams where you play for top 10 you play a player with talent. It's always welcome even if that talent is not consistent, even if that talent is one day yes, one day no.

The Portuguese added: "In these teams at this level, you need to be consistent. And today for 90 minutes Valencia was consistent, Ashley Young was consistent, Marcos Rojo was consistent, Eric Bailly was consistent, [Marouane] Fellaini was consistent, [Michael] Carrick was consistent and the other ones were not consistent.
"The other ones were a flash of talent, a glimpse of talent, almost goal and we need to keep opponents, and this is deja vu all season. And when you score a goal against these teams you don't win 1-0, you win three or 4-0, because if we score a goal the game is open and you have a different story, then they have to play a different way, and we are not consistent on this."
Jesse Lingard, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial all fell well short of the lofty expectations on Saturday, as West Brom held on to a scoreless draw fairly easily at Old Trafford.
Apart from a late push from the hosts, forcing goalkeeper Ben Foster into a handful of saves, the Baggies defenders barely had to get out of first gear.
The absence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Juan Mata and Paul Pogba clearly had an effect on the team, but Mourinho highlighted another culprit.
As shared by BBC Radio Manchester's Bill Rice, he wasn't impressed with Dean's handling of the match:
Dean let West Brom get away with plenty of time wasting in the first half and only allowed a minute of added time. He could have sent off Allan Nyom for a second bookable offence and let a lot of minor bumps go, and a final fracas in added time resulted in more bookings for the hosts than the visitors.
As shared by United's official Twitter account, Mourinho thought his team did well in creating chances on Saturday, but the finishing wasn't there:
He was stunned when a reporter from BBC Match of the Day asked him whether both teams' defensive mentality cancelled each other out:
Mourinho pointed out West Brom manager Tony Pulis barely urged his team to attack, but BBC Sport's John Bennett didn't understand why he was surprised:
The result is a blow for United's chances of finishing in the top four, as the team has a tricky fixture list to end the season, with UEFA Europa League fixtures also taking place. Mourinho and his troops may be best off prioritising that competition the rest of the way, with the winner receiving a spot in next year's UEFA Champions League.
