WWE Raw: Burning Questions to Address After March 27 Show

Ryan DilbertMar 28, 2017

The final WWE Raw before WrestleMania 33 left the audience with questions about the red brand's characters.

Roman Reigns appears to be slowly shedding his skin right in front of us. Opposite Undertaker, The Big Dog again showed signs of embracing his darkness.

Is WWE actually going through with the shift in character he has needed for so long?

The possibility of Sasha Banks turning heel popped up in Philadelphia, too. Her interactions with Bayley continue to hint at an alliance splitting apart on center stage.

Monday's Raw also left us wondering if a special guest will be joining the tag team title match and whether Sami Zayn's issues with his boss will continue past The Show of Shows.

Read on for a breakdown of those unknowns and questions about what direction both Banks and Reigns are headed in.

Will Banks Betray Bayley?

Charlotte Flair warned Bayley that her friend Banks will turn on her in the end. The Queen continued to plant seeds of doubt in the champ's mind, looking to create tension between the allies.

That's smart storytelling. When Banks and Bayley cross paths in the Fatal 4-Way Elimination match at WrestleMania, the audience will be waiting for the explosion between the two.

After Monday's segment, Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet was among those foreseeing a backstabbing:

That feels like the most probable scenario. The Boss has shown flashes of a more aggressive, selfish side of herself. She's made subtle comments about being better than Bayley.

WWE would be best off allowing that all to culminate at WrestleMania.

Banks winning the Raw women's title from Bayley in underhanded fashion is the ideal next step to this narrative. The babyface can then chase down the woman who turned on her.

Will the Hardys Show Up to the Ladder Match?

Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson ambushed Cesaro and Sheamus backstage on Monday's Raw, smashing their rivals with a ladder.

In response, Cesaro and The Celtic Warrior blasted the tag champs, as well as Enzo Amore and Big Cass, in a brawl. Ladders played heavily into the fight. It sure seemed like foreshadowing of an added stipulation, and it was.

WWE announced on its official website that the title bout between all three squads at WrestleMania will now be a ladder match.

That adds fire aplenty to the speculation surrounding Matt and Jeff Hardy making a surprise appearance at the event. The brothers are now free agents. Questions now swirl regarding their next move.

WWE could make them a fourth entrant in the match. The Hardy Boyz could pop in for a cameo.

As exciting as that surprise would be, WWE may wish to save it for the Raw after WrestleMania. There is no storyline animosity between the Hardys and the Raw tag teams. It will feel random to throw them in the mix just before the match.

Should they challenge whoever wins on Sunday, though, the Raw tag team division will suddenly be electric.

Where Is the Zayn-McMahon Story Going?

Stephanie McMahon made Zayn's path to WrestleMania a toilsome one. The Raw commissioner denied him automatic entry into the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, instead demanding that he defeat Kevin Owens in a No Disqualification match to earn his spot.

On top of that, McMahon informed him that a defeat meant he would lose his job.

Zayn did what he does best—gutted it out against a bigger opponent. The Underdog from the Underground managed to survive against KO, eventually stealing the win when chaos unfolded at ringside.

He's now set to join the Battle Royal field, but it feels as if his issues with McMahon aren't over.

Zayn stood up for Mick Foley last week when McMahon fired the former general manager. He then talked on Monday about continuing Foley's legacy on Raw.

This looks to be the beginnings of a story reminiscent of Daniel Bryan vs. The Authority. It's too soon to reprise that tale, and Raw has focused on McMahon too much as it is. At this point, though, Zayn fans may settle for any kind of story centered on their favorite babyface.

Will Reigns Actually Turn Heel?

Reigns' latest interaction with Undertaker further suggested a character shift is in the works.

The Big Dog toyed with the Philly crowd, throwing his accomplishments in their faces. With a smirk, he recalled winning the 2015 Royal Rumble match. He was angry and defiant, seemingly fed up with fans.

More and more, he's looking like the heel he needs to be.

He is not yet there, though. Getting booed does not make one a villain. Committing villainous acts does.

As Marc Normandin of Cageside Seats wrote of Reigns: "He's just a guy who gets booed because some fans don't like how often he's in the main event, or how quickly he got there."

That could soon change at WrestleMania. Beating Undertaker in what may be his final match by way of cheating would give him massive heat. And should The Big Dog grow vicious in that battle, he could use The Show of Shows as a launchpad to being Raw's No. 1 heel.

WWE has been stubborn about turning Reigns to this point, so there's no guarantee that happens, no matter how much sense it makes. Still, it appears to be the plan for him. It's about time.
