WWE WrestleMania 2017: Predicting Most Likely Swerves at Marquee PPV

Aaron BowerMar 25, 2017

If there's one WWE pay-per-view where you can rely on a swerve or two, it's WrestleMania.

And the 33rd edition of the iconic show next weekend promises to be no different. There is speculation aplenty about whether injured wrestlers, former stars and even new faces will show up at Mania, leaving fans on the edge of their seats about what to expect.

Given how some matches still aren't set in stone, that creates the prospect of even more unpredictability.

Here's what WWE fans can expect in regards to some shocks, twists and turns on the night at Mania.

The Hardy Boyz Show Up

1 of 3

Further news about The Hardy Boyz emerged this week via Pro Wrestling Sheet's Ryan Satin, who reported that "all signs point to an inevitable return" with the WWE.

That's great news, and given how the company pulled a swerve on SmackDown this week and had The Usos pick up SmackDown's tag titles, perhaps the foundations are being laid for Matt and Jeff to return at WrestleMania?

There's no match locked in for the tag division at Mania, and it looks like a multi-team approach may be the way to go.

So what's the possibility of The Hardy Boyz being the surprise entrants in that match? If the company can thrash out a deal over the next week or so, don't bet against it.

Sasha Turns on Bayley

2 of 3

There may well be four women vying for the Raw Women's Championship at WrestleMania next week, but it's impossible to look beyond two of them in particular taking the division forward beyond Mania.

Those two women are Bayley and Sasha Banks.

Given how incredible their rivalry was in NXT, it makes sense to have them both compete for the Raw title over a prolonged period of time at some point.

That point should come immediately after WrestleMania 33, when Banks turns on Bayley and returns to working as a heel.

Have Bayley retain the title and have Sasha, incensed by this, attack the champion from behind to spark a brand-new rivalry.

Finn Balor Turns Heel and Screws Seth Rollins

3 of 3

Given the make-up of Raw's current roster, a Finn Balor heel turn isn't the most impossible swerve that could happen at WrestleMania next week. In fact, there's good odds on it happening.

Balor worked predominantly as a babyface in the short period he was on the main roster before being injured, but him showing up at Mania as a shock to turn heel makes booking sense on lots of levels.

The fact he could screw Seth Rollins makes even more sense. After all, Seth was the guy who caused the injury that forced Balor onto the shelf last year.

The fact Balor has an obviously close relationship with Triple H, who Rollins is almost certain to be facing, adds fuel to the fire of a Balor heel turn.

There is a real possibility HHH could push on and set up a new stable, and Balor would easily be an ideal leader for the group, which could also include Samoa Joe.

Then there's the possibility of Balor Club coming back together.

Balor as a heel—right now, at least—makes a world of sense.
