WWE Wants the Hardys, WrestleMania 33 and Top WWE News from Week of March 25

The Doctor Chris MuellerMar 25, 2017

WWE is gearing up for the biggest week of the year, and as usual, there was just as much going on outside the ring as there was inside over the past seven days. Let's take a look at some of the biggest stories from the past week.

Jim Ross Honors His Late Wife

Jan Ross, the wife of legendary WWE commentator Jim Ross, died this week after she suffered numerous skull fractures after getting into an accident while riding a Vespa.

TMZ first broke the news of the incident on Tuesday. The following day, Ross posted on J.R.'s Place to thank fans for their support while she was in surgery. Unfortunately, he posted the following tweet later in the day:

Ross also tweeted that he would be in Orlando, Florida, for WrestleMania week along with a picture of him and Jan sitting together while watching a football game.

Losing a loved one is never easy. It's safe to say everyone in the WWE Universe has the Ross family in their thoughts during this tough time.

WWE Reveals Hall of Fame Inductors

This year's Hall of Fame class is one of the most star-studded in the history of the ceremony, and WWE is making sure those performing the introductions are just as recognizable as the stars being inducted.

We already know John Cena will induct Kurt Angle. Bobby Melok of WWE.com confirmed three more names as inductors this week, and one of them may surprise you.

Eric Bischoff will bring out Diamond Dallas Page, and Natalya will introduce Beth Phoenix. But the most shocking announcement was the revelation that Jim Cornette will induct The Rock 'n' Roll Express. The tennis racket-wielding manager reacted to the news via Twitter:

Cornette was a heel manager for WWE in the '90s, coaching such legends as Yokozuna, Owen Hart and The British Bulldog.

He has been vocal about his displeasure with the WWE product since leaving the company in 2005, so it caught a lot of people off guard when they found out he would be allowed to stand in front of a live microphone.

Cornette, despite all his feelings about the company, is a businessman. He knows this is about the accomplishments of Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson, so we shouldn't expect him to start ranting onstage.

John Cena Returning to 'Today'

According to WWE.com, Cena will return to Today to host the March 27 and 28 episodes during the week leading up to WrestleMania 33.

Cena has been appearing on a semi-regular basis on the program for the past year, and if you have ever watched him on the show, it's easy to see why.

He is confident in front of the camera, gets along with the other hosts, has a good sense of humor about himself and his profession and brings more mainstream attention to WWE.

The 16-time world champion is someone who could easily transition into this kind of role permanently if he ever decides to trade in his jorts and the WWE Universe for a suit and studio audience.

In addition to everything he does for WWE, Cena already finished filming the second season of American Grit and has begun hyping its June 11 premiere.

Female MMA Fighter Gets WWE Tryout

Ever since WWE opened its Performance Center in 2013, the company has been posting videos of people receiving tryouts, which has given fans a deeper look inside the business.

One particular video from this week, featured above, stands out. Katya Kavaleva is a world kickboxing champion who has been training in various forms of martial arts for 15 years.

Her experience gives her an obvious edge, but towering over the other female competitors, at 6'5", might be her most valuable asset.

With her size, athleticism and experience, officials would be remiss not to offer Kavaleva a deal to begin training right away.

The renewed focus on women's wrestling over the past few years has been great for the business, and it's athletes like Kavaleva who can keep the momentum going.

WWE Offers The Hardys Deals to Return

According to Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, Matt and Jeff Hardy have been offered deals to return to WWE.

They are working with Ring of Honor as its tag team champions, but they only have a short-term deal in place with the promotion.

The biggest hurdle would be the use of the Broken gimmick the Hardys have been using. However, WWE could easily get around the issue by changing some minor character details.

Neither of the Hardys has worked in a WWE ring since 2009. They have seen a resurgence in their careers thanks to their Broken personas, and WWE has obviously taken notice.

With WWE recruiting more than ever, and an already crowded tag team division, it's hard to imagine Matt and Jeff would have anywhere near the level of creative freedom their current schedule affords them.

Rumors of WWE Buying Ring of Honor Shot Down

Speaking of Ring of Honor, rumors of a possible buyout began swirling when Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet published a story Tuesday about WWE looking to purchase the promotion.

Fans immediately began complaining about WWE doing the same thing to the indys it had done to the territory scene, but it doesn't look like there is anything to worry about.

Chuck Carroll of CBSSports.com refuted the story after interviewing ROH COO Joe Koff. While a buyout doesn't seem likely, something else may be in the works.

"I'm always open to any conversation," Koff said, per Carroll. "We do business with them if they want to do a DVD or VOD if they need footage from early matches. They do come to us. We are open to work with them on that basis because it doesn't hurt us. It actually helps us."
