Kevin Durant Ruled Out for Game 2 vs. Trail Blazers with Calf Injury
Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant will miss Wednesday night's Game 2 Western Conference matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers at Oracle Arena with a calf injury.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr announced the news, via NBA on TNT:
ESPN's Marc Stein first reported the news.
Tim Kawakami of the Mercury News added Durant is considered day-to-day and could miss Game 3 as well.
When asked after the Game 2 win whether the 2-0 series lead would see Durant sit, Kerr told reporters, "It could. If he's ready to play, he's gonna play. If there's a question, he won't play"
Durant, 28, suffered a strained left calf during the Warriors' Game 1 victory over Portland on Sunday. He had 32 points and 11 rebounds in 36 minutes and showed little sign of struggle. The team held him out of shootaround earlier Wednesday.
"If he didn't practice, there's concern, so, questionable," Kerr told reporters when Durant missed practice Tuesday.
In his first season with the Warriors, Durant was performing like an MVP candidate before suffering a knee injury that cost him more than a month of action. He returned with three games remaining in the 2016-17 regular season to get his body ready for the playoffs.
"At first it was tough news," Durant told reporters of his mindset regarding the knee injury, "but then it came back, and by the grace of God, it wasn't as bad as we thought. So that was a positive. And I just try to look at that and just try to stay positive throughout this whole situation. And just keep working."
The Warriors will hope Durant returns to the lineup soon. They hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series, with the action shifting to Portland's Moda Center for Game 3 on Saturday.
