Steve Kerr Says LaVar Ball's Comments Aren't Helping Lonzo, LaMelo, LiAngelo
LaVar Ball has gained notoriety in recent weeks because of his bizarre comments about his kids and himself, but Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr doesn't necessarily agree with what he is doing.
"I don't think it's helping his kids," Kerr said on ESPN Radio's Waddle & Silvy, via ESPN.com. "I think it'd be better for them if they can just play and have fun and not have to hear that every day, but whatever. It's all part of him."
Ball is the father of UCLA guard Lonzo Ball and Chino Hills High School stars LiAngelo and LaMelo Ball. While all three have obvious talent, he has done more than be a usual father defending his kids.
In February, the elder Ball claimed that Lonzo was better than Stephen Curry. He then touted his own horn this week when he told Josh Peter of USA Today that in his prime he could have beaten Michael Jordan one-on-one.
"The fact that everybody keeps talking about him, he seems to be accomplishing whatever he's trying to accomplish, because the things he says are so outlandish," Kerr said. "But he keeps getting headlines, and I guess that's what he wants."
Even with the statements and the backlash from those who hear it, his sons don't have a problem.
"He's been like that my whole life, so it’s nothing new for me," Lonzo Ball said Thursday, per Peter.
Considering the UCLA star is projected to be the No. 2 pick in the 2017 draft by Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman and the youngest brother is just a sophomore in high school and already committed to the Bruins, this family isn't disappearing from the spotlight soon.
