Jason Kipnis Placed on 10-Day DL with Hamstring Injury
Cleveland Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a hamstring strain on Sunday, the team announced.
Kipnis suffered the injury Saturday night against the Detroit Tigers, per Zack Meisel of Cleveland.com.
This is another setback for Kipnis, who dealt with a rotator cuff injury before the season started. ย

Durability wasn't a concern for Kipnis in 2016 when he played a career-high 156 games and helped lead the Indians to the World Series with a slash line of .275/.343/.469 and 23 home runs. He was also responsible for a career-best four total defensive runs saved above average, per FanGraphs.
The 2013 and 2015 All-Star is a consistent force in the Cleveland lineup, but he has struggled so far this season by hitting .232 with eight home runs and 26 RBI.
The Indians will likely turn toward Erik Gonzalez or Jose Ramirez at second until Kipnis can return. Gonzalez and Ramirez are both versatile enough to play multiple positions across the infield, and Ramirez entered the season as the starting third baseman.
The team also announced infielder Giovanny Urshela has been recalled from Triple-A.
Kipnis' potential absence cuts into Cleveland's depth, but it is a luxury to have versatile pieces like that around Francisco Lindor and Carlos Santana in the infield. That will help keep the defending American League champions afloat until their starter is healthy again.
