Scot McCloughan's Agent Says Redskins GM Is 'Very Healthy' Despite Absence

Adam WellsMar 9, 2017

Things with the Washington Redskins seem to be falling apart behind the scenes, starting with the unusual situation involving general manager Scot McCloughan.

During an appearance on PFT Live (via Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio), McCloughan's agent, Peter Schaffer, said Washington's general manager is "very healthy," still "in contact with the team" and "doing stuff to help the team move forward."

This comes one day after ESPN's John Keim reported McCloughan was "no longer involved in the team's decision-making as his future with the organization remains in question."

Washington spokesman Tony Wyllie told A.J. Perez of USA Today on March 2 that McCloughan would not attend the NFL Scouting Combine because he was "taking care of some family matters."

Former Washington tight end and current radio host Chris Cooley drew headlines last month when he speculated on the air (h/t Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post) that McCloughan has "had a drinking problem over his entire career. And so you ask right away, is he drinking?"

Schaffer said Thursday that McCloughan's absence from the team is not due to problems with alcohol.

Liz Clarke and Mike Jones of the Washington Post reported Wednesday that McCloughan's "departure from the team is inevitable."

McCloughan has been Washington's general manager since 2015, leading the franchise to a division title in his first year. He originally signed a four-year deal with the team when he was hired.
