Former USC LB Osa Masina Avoids Sexual Assault Charges in LA, Awaits Utah Trial
On Tuesday, the Associated Press (h/t Sports Illustrated) reported Los Angeles prosecutors elected not to file sexual assault charges against former USC football player Osa Masina.
The Los Angeles County district attorney's office said "it would be too difficult to prove in court that the victim was too intoxicated to provide consent, as she has alleged," per the AP.
Despite Tuesday's news, Masina is awaiting trial on similar charges in Utah.
What's more, prosecutors declined to file charges against Masina's former teammate at USC, Don Hill. Hill was under investigation for the same Los Angeles case, although he wasn't involved in the Utah allegations.
The Utah case involves the same victim, and the AP noted prosecutors said the evidence is stronger than the Los Angeles one.
Zach Helfand of the Los Angeles Times reported Masina pled not guilty to first-degree rape and forcible sodomy charges in the Utah case that the same woman said happened less than two weeks after the Los Angeles incident.
The trial starts June 26.
Helfand noted Masina and Hill were both suspended from the Trojans as sophomore linebackers and have been removed from the roster.
