WWE Raw Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from March 6

Erik BeastonMar 7, 2017

The Road to WrestleMania is officially underway on Raw.

The show was infinitely better and more focused than it has been in eons, making for an enjoyable three-hour watch for wrestling fans.

Over the course of that 180 minutes, twists and turns led to the setup of enormous 'Mania bouts and the latest chapters in some of the most riveting stories in all of WWE.

Some of the Superstars involved seized the opportunity given to them to become the night's biggest winners, while others found themselves less fortunate, the central figures in questionable booking tactics.

Did new universal champion Goldberg end up a winner? Could Kevin Owens rebound after an embarrassing night at Fastlane? What about Charlotte, who lost her first pay-per-view title match ever Sunday night?

Find out where those three competitors landed in this recap of the March 6 episode of WWE's flagship show.

Winner: Austin Aries

1 of 5

"It's less of a question and...more of a statement," Austin Aries said before dropping cruiserweight champion Neville with a huge forearm and officially throwing his name into contention for the top prize on 205 Live.

It was a moment built to over the last few weeks. Aries became more visible this last month, appearing inside the squared circle for interviews with Neville. In these segments, he became irritated by The King of the Cruiserweights' disparaging remarks about the division.

Aries unloaded his frustration on Neville, and in the process, set up the most anticipated cruiserweight division match to date.

A veteran of the squared circle who has found considerable success in both Ring of Honor and TNA Wrestling, it will be Aries' first dance on the grand stage. More importantly, though, it will be a match that lends credibility to the cruiserweights, something that division has been seriously lacking since its return to WWE last fall.

Aries is the perfect Superstar to program against Neville.

He is recognizable, has a sparkling resume and can go under the highest-pressure situations.

Let him be him and work the match he is capable of, and the result could be an unexpected show-stealer given the abilities of the performers involved.

The Chicago fans treated Aries like a star Monday night, and his Road to WrestleMania certainly is much more interesting than it was prior to the March 6 episode of Raw.

Loser: Goldberg

2 of 5

Standing before Bill Goldberg was Brock Lesnar, The Beast Incarnate he had last seen at Royal Rumble. At that event, Goldberg eliminated Lesnar and humiliated him for the second consecutive pay-per-view event.

Taking that into consideration, at what point did he think it was a smart idea to take his eyes off the former WWE champion for even a split second during Monday's face-to-face confrontation?

Just as Paul Heyman suggested Goldberg would be Lesnar's "bitch" at WrestleMania, Goldberg turned his head, allowing Lesnar to catch him with the F-5 and leave him lying in a heap.

It was an odd booking decision that left Goldberg looking like the tired, gullible babyface that has always been part of Vince McMahon's company.

Goldberg should be portrayed as smarter than that. He should have smiled or laughed it off, unconcerned with the words of an advocate. Instead, he made the same stupid mistake every other Superstar has, and the result was the same.

WWE has done a surprisingly great job of maintaining the aura of Goldberg to this point. It has made amends for the poor use of the WCW icon during his first run with the company and is reminding fans on a weekly basis why he is the monumental star he was a generation ago.

Questionable choices like Monday's, though, could eat away at that aura and weaken the effect Goldberg has on fans ahead of the biggest match on the WrestleMania card. That would be catastrophic and the worst possible timing by WWE Creative.

Thus, it would behoove everyone involved to continue letting Goldberg smash folks rather than falling for stupid tricks that are usually reserved for the Apollo Crewses and Kalistos of the world.

Winner: Charlotte

3 of 5

Charlotte Flair hit the ring, understandably infuriated after her loss at Fastlane, and wasted little time exposing Sasha Banks' deceitful ways and setting up what appears to be Banks' inevitable heel turn.

Addressing Bayley, Flair stated that Banks only helped her out because she knew she could not beat Flair to win the title. It was a valid observation from Flair, who tried stirring the pot between friends. On this night, it did not work, but it did showcase her cerebral nature.

Flair is always thinking, making logical points in an attempt to get a leg up on the competition.

For all of the flaws surrounding her booking and the number of championships she has won and lost over the last year, she has consistently made sense in her criticisms of the opposition.

Charlotte, who received a championship opportunity from Stephanie McMahon, has cashed her ticket to WrestleMania and can win her 17th of 18 pay-per-view title matches.

In short order, Charlotte has become the face of women's wrestling on Raw and, arguably, its most consistently great big-match performer. That should continue on April 2. Whether the strength of her booking continues on as it did Monday night is the biggest question.

Loser: Sami Zayn

4 of 5

There will be some who insist that Sami Zayn's involvement in a storyline involving Kevin Owens, Samoa Joe and, by proxy, Triple H suggests he is a premier player on Raw.

That may be the case, and WWE may see him that way, but his booking has been so suspect that it is difficult to ever believe that wholeheartedly.

Take Monday night for example.

Zayn made the save early in the show for Chris Jericho...but fumbled around and got beat up to the point that Jericho had to make his own save for the dude who made the save for him.

Zayn then proceeded to lose to Kevin Owens clean in the center of the ring, perhaps the only person to do that in months.

It is nice to see Zayn's profile rise on the flagship show, but his inability to win or look even halfway competent without catching an asskicking has him closely resembling a cartoon character rather than a plucky, underdog babyface fans can root for.

Winner: Kevin Owens

5 of 5

"You were a tool until you became a burden," Kevin Owens told Chris Jericho, revealing the devious manner in which he lured the future Hall of Famer into a false sense of friendship then dropped him when the opportunity arose.

Owens spoke with conviction and was matter-of-fact as he discussed the way Jericho accepted the match with Goldberg on Owens' behalf, leading to The Prizefighter's betrayal of Y2J.

It was blunt, unwavering and demonstrated the deceitful nature of the former universal champion.

It was a welcome return to form for Owens, who appears to be back to the sarcastic-yet-evil villain he had always been ahead of one of the biggest and most significant matches of his career at WrestleMania.
