Arnold Sports Festival Results 2017: Sunday Results, Highlights and Reaction
The majority of the headline events were already in the rearview mirror, but a few record-breakers stole the show Sunday during the fourth and final day of competition at the 2017 Arnold Sports Festival in the Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio.
Marquee names such as Brian Shaw and Hafthor Bjornsson headlined the ROGUE Record Breakers competition after Saturday featured Cedric McMillan's victory in the Arnold Classic, Ryan Terry's win in the men's physique event and Angelica Teixeira's triumph in the bikini event.
According to the event's website, athletes were attempting to establish world records in the "Lift and Hold with replicas of Scotland's famous Dinnie Stones," the Circus Dumbbell, the Manhood Stone and the Weight Over Bar events during the ROGUE portion of Sunday's activities.
The Dinnie Stones event came first, and Odd Haugen, Mark Felix, Bill Crawford and Stevie Shanks—who are all older than 50—attempted to lift and hold the 321- and 413-pound stones for as long as possible. Felix prevailed with the best time.
Next was the circus dumbbell, and Mateusz Kieliskowski earned the victory over Dimitar Savatinov and Josh Reynolds by holding a dumbbell of 312 pounds over his head.
Shaw turned heads in the manhood stone competition against Martins Licis by lifting a 560-pound stone over a wooden barrier of 48 inches. Bjornsson then played to the crowd before tossing a 56-pound ring over a high bar and breaking his old world record of 19'6".
Rogue Fitness provided coverage of the Record Breakers events and all the results on its YouTube page.
Elsewhere, a Fitness Expo, Sunday Showcase, multiple rowing events, a Martial Arts Festival, cheerleading and dance performances, gymnastics, archery, and fencing were all included on Sunday's docket.
Some of the younger stars showed off their mental strength on the chess board, as Columbus Academy highlighted:
The full list of events is available on the event's official website.
The final day of the Arnold festival also offered the opportunity to take in the scenes one last time, as RXMuscle.com shared:
Schwarzenegger's star power alone ensures the annual festival regularly attracts some of the biggest names in weightlifting to Ohio's capital city. The event is sure to do the same next year as some of the 2016 champions return to defend their crowns.
