Arsenal Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Alex Sandro

Rory MarsdenMar 4, 2017

Massimiliano Allegri reportedly has a verbal agreement with Arsenal to succeed Arsene Wenger as manager should the Frenchman step down at the end of the season, and one of his key targets is Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

According to Neil Fissler in the Express, current Juventus boss Allegri has also been asked by the Gunners for a list of players he would like to pursue, and he has named 22-year-old Sergej having tried to sign him for the Old Lady last summer.

Fissler added that the Serbian midfielder has told Lazio he will not enter into negotiations over a new contract until the summer, with his current deal set to run until 2020.

Predominantly a central midfielder, Sergej has been in fine form of late, putting in a particularly good performance in Lazio's 2-0 defeat of Roma in the Coppa Italia on Wednesday, per WhoScored.com:

He is strong on the ball, adept defensively and can contribute as both a creator and goalscorer—he has netted four times and provided three assists in 24 Serie A appearances in 2016-17, per WhoScored.

Arsenal already have a strong core of central midfielders in their ranks—Francis Coquelin, Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny and Santi Cazorla, who is a long-term injury absentee.

But Allegri would likely look to make personnel changes should he succeed Wenger in the summer, and Sergej's combination of defensive acumen and attacking ability could make him a major asset at the Emirates Stadium.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are reportedly set to be frustrated in their attempts to sign Juve left-back Alex Sandro as the Italian giants are preparing to hand him a new contract.

Per Chris Hatherall in the Mirror, the Gunners have been eyeing Sandro, 26, as a potential replacement for Nacho Monreal, but the Brazil international is "close to accepting" new terms with Juve worth £70,000 per week that will tie him to the club until 2022.

Sandro is a very versatile attacking full-back who can play almost anywhere down the left flank, even on the left side of a front three—he has netted two goals and provided four assists in Serie A this season, per WhoScored.

Working in tandem with current Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin he could likely be devastating in the Premier League, but it seems the Gunners will struggle to tempt him away from Juve.
