UK Open Darts 2017: Scores, Results, Updated Schedule After Friday
Two-time world champion Gary Anderson is out of the 2017 UK Open as he was upset Friday night 10-9 in sensational style by qualifier Paul Hogan at Butlins Resort in Minehead, England.
The contest went down to the wire with Anderson struggling for his best throughout the match. The Scotsman saw a match dart at bullseye bounce out, allowing Hogan, nicknamed "Crocodile Dundee," to secure the biggest win of his career by far.
There were no such issues for Peter Wright, Adrian Lewis and Raymond van Barneveld, though, as they earned comfortable wins. World No. 1 and world champion Michael van Gerwen will not be involved in this year’s event as he pulled out with a back injury, per the PDC website.

Friday Recap
The beauty of the UK Open is that so many competitors at so many different points in their career take part. Subsequently, there were plenty of intriguing contests to enjoy Friday evening as Round 3 of the competition got underway.
It’s a competition renowned for big upsets too, something Anderson found out against Hogan. Throughout the match, the underdog kept pace with the World No. 2, averaging a shade below 100 and finishing ruthlessly.
With the scoreline 9-8 in his favour, Hogan missed a match dart, and Anderson pushed the clash into a decider.
As we can see here courtesy of Live Darts, the Scotsman then came within a whisker of stealing the contest:
However, his missed dart gave Hogan the chance, and despite the pressure on him, the 53-year-old kept his cool to secure one of the biggest shocks in the history of the competition.
"I didn't expect to win," said Hogan after the victory, per Live Darts. "I just went up there and played my own game and enjoyed it. That's one of my best wins."

Given Van Gerwen and Phil Taylor are not involved and Anderson is out, Wright is the highest-ranked player remaining in the tournament, and he played like it, overcoming James Richardson 10-3.
A day after he posted the second highest average in Premier League darts history—a sensational 119.50—the colourful Scotsman was on it from the off, looking very much like a player in the form of his life. As relayed afterwards by darts journalist Dan Dawson, Wright was in reflective mood despite his resounding win:
In one of the matches of the evening, Lewis, ranked fourth in the world, overcame James Wade, ranked fifth in the world. The two darting heavyweights traded blows throughout a brilliant match, although Lewis outlasted his opponent in the latter stages.
Here’s what he had to say after the win, per Coral:
Van Barneveld was another big name who ran into a determined underdog in Barrie Bates. The legendary Dutchman couldn’t pull away from his opponent in the first 12 legs, which were shared between the two players.

Eventually, the lasting class of the man known as Barney came through in the latter stages, as he slowly turned the screw and won four legs in a row. Nevertheless, it was a brave effort from the World No. 107.
The Round 4 draw has produced some fascinating ties too, with Wright going head-to-head with Dave Chisnall, who was a confident 10-4 winner over Jamie Caven.
