Premier League Darts 2017 Results: Scores, Standings, Schedule After Brighton

James DudkoFeb 23, 2017

Adrian Lewis and Michael van Gerwen battled to a 6-6 draw after a spectacular 2017 Premier League Darts match at The Brighton Centre on Thursday. Jackpot and Mighty Mike took a point apiece after delivering an instant classic.

Later, Gary Anderson and James Wade also traded blows in another draw. Two more stalemates followed as Raymond van Barneveld and Peter Wright shared a point, as did Phil Taylor and Kim Huybrechts.

The day's only outright winner was Jelle Klaasen, who beat Dave Chisnall with room to spare to move off the foot of the table.

Recap

Some huge scoring between Lewis and Van Gerwen produced a quite remarkable match. Jackpot built a 3-1 lead before Van Gerwen rallied brilliantly to push things even at four legs apiece.

Mighty Mike was beginning to click into high gear, but Lewis was also in top form. He proved it with more spectacular scoring to regain the lead, per PDC Darts:

Van Gerwen battled back again, and yet another maximum soon gave him a point at 6-5. MVG was on the brink of a memorable win, but Lewis was in no mood to be denied. Jackpot took down double-12 to earn himself a share of the spoils.

Both players had produced some sensational form at the oche. Their staggering scoring was laid out by Live Darts:

Next, it was the Flying Scotsman's turn to wow the crowds in Brighton. However, Anderson only turned on the style after Wade had built a seemingly unassailable 5-1 lead.

The Machine claimed that advantage thanks both to his own scoring, as well as Anderson's struggles on doubles:

By contrast, Wade was prolific on the doubles:

This was the cue for a desperate Anderson to up his game. Checkouts of 88 and 121 got him to within a leg of drawing even.

Now it was Wade's turn to miss on doubles. He missed double-three to hand Anderson another leg before the Flying Scotsman went ahead for the first time.

It would have been a travesty for Wade to throw all the points away, but the Machine spared his own blushes when he hit double-nine to make it a point apiece.

Wade had undoubtedly wasted a commanding position, yet he still kept his unbeaten streak alive. Meanwhile, Anderson was just happy to have claimed a point:

Taylor needed a similar comeback to take a point against Huybrechts. The Power got lucky, though, when Huybrechts was off the mark with three match darts.

Huybrechts was 3-1 then 4-2 ahead before Taylor staged his rally. He began with a double-nine, before holding throw two legs later to stay in touch at 5-4.

The Power needed a maximum to again stay within a leg at 6-5, but he finally took the point by hitting double-eight.

Sticking with the theme of the night, the final match was similarly close. In fact, a decider was needed to try and separate Van Barneveld and Wright.

As PDC Darts noted, it's a familiar occurrence in matches between these two:

It was Barney who was chasing the game, and the Dutchman saved his best for last. A point was his after hitting a 140 checkout.

The night began with Klaasen making relatively straightforward work of Chisnall. The former broke throw several times, including when he checked out on 152 to stretch his lead to 5-2.

A hold of throw meant Klaasen would surely take home a point. But he made sure he earned maximum reward two legs later when he didn't miss double-16.

The glut of draws hasn't changed much at the top, with Van Gerwen, Taylor and Wade still yet to be defeated.
