B/R Kicks: Top Releases of the Week

Giancarlo Ferrari-KingFeb 22, 2017

Recovering from the madness that was NBA All-Star Weekend has everyone reeling for extra sources of income. Between countless Air Jordan drops—including the outstanding "Gotta Shine" Air Jordan I—two Nike Special Field Air Force Ones and Nike's "Vachetta Tan" basketball pack, the come-up was in full effect.

Our first post-NBA weekend didn't get the memo. Think about it. Paul George's signature shoe, a hyper-limited Yeezy release and two Air Jordans that should tip the scales make this week's lineup another high-octane dose of sneaker economics.

It's time to get rolling and check out Bleacher Report's top sneaker releases of the week.

Air Jordan VIII 'Alternate'

1 of 5

Sneaker: Air Jordan VIII "Alternate"

Release Date: February 25

What if this particular Air Jordan VIII was first released in 1993? It's plausible to think Michael Jordan himself would have rocked a pair on the court when his Chicago Bulls were at home if the mood struck him.

We don't have to think about that prospect any longer. Jordan Brand has reimagined the Air Jordan VIII by engaging consumers in this 2017 "Alternate" edition.

Once you stray outside of the hype—think Is, XIs and IIIs—the Air Jordan line starts to flourish in ways one couldn't imagine prior. The Air Jordan VIII, by nature, hasn't always been a sellout sneaker. But it's the details of this shoe that help make it an all-time classic.

Take the "1993" lettering woven onto the heel tab in order to honor the shoe's initial release or the bulky ankle strap. Those elements—combined with traditional white, black and red coloring—turns this "Alternate" Air Jordan VIII into a genuine attention-grabber.

Hitting homes on February 25 for $190, the Air Jordan VIII "Alternate" should sway consumers to believe that this model is a staple of all things positive.

Nike PG 1 'Shining'

2 of 5

Sneaker: Nike PG 1 "Shining"

Release Date: February 25

Paul George's first signature look with Nike finally has a release date. On February 25, Indiana Pacers faithful and basketball clientele alike will get their chance to cop the Nike PG 1 "Shining."

The shoe makes George Nike's latest brand ambassador, joining the ranks of LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. In that sense, it's a big deal that he received such a lucrative deal.

Crafted using the traditional Nike Air Zoom unit and a forefront support strap as building blocks for success, the PG 1 enters the sneaker sphere as a performance piece—for more details about the shoe, check out our examination of the PG 1.

A price point of $110 also makes this sneaker competitive. You don't have to break the bank to join Team George.

The "Shining" model appears to be the first of many colorways in the line. Keep it locked to Bleacher Report to find out what Nike and George cook up next.

Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 V2 'Zebra'

3 of 5

Sneaker: Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 V2 "Zebra"

Release Date: February 25

Exclusivity takes a front seat when the Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 V2 "Zebra" comes out in a limited capacity on February 25, per Sole Collector. Yeezy releases are nearly impossible to get your hands on unless you win a raffle or can successfully navigate the internet's backwaters. These are going to be extra-difficult to add to your collection considering very few retail stores and online venues are holding inventory.

Despite undergoing an exercise in futility, it's worth watching your web browser crash and burn. The Yeezy Boost 350 V2 "Zebra" is a gorgeous design, and anyone who secures a pair can enjoy them or resell it for a comfortable profit.

Weaved together with a black-and-white cross pattern and a white SPLY-350 stripe, this Boost 350 veers away from a darker approach, instead opting for something more eye-catching.

The traditional $220 price accompanies the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 "Zebra" at a retail level. Anyone pursuing the kicks after that will have to fork over significant cash to nab a pair.

Air Jordan XII Low 'Playoff'

4 of 5

Sneaker: Air Jordan XII Low "Playoff"

Release Date: February 25

Calling all Air Jordan fans. Not only will the Air Jordan VIII "Alternate" be hitting shelves on February 25, but the Air Jordan XII Low "Playoff" is scheduled to join the party.

Priced at $170, these sneakers take the essential "Playoff" version, first released in 1997, and cuts them down to a low-cut size. Jordan Brand aficionados will remember the Air Jordan XII was the first model to feature Nike's distinct Zoom Air unit.

It also comes with a distinct black, red and white colorway—three colors the Chicago Bulls lived on. Shifting design aside—the Air Jordan XII remains an aesthetics dream—the low-cut variant is perfect for spring due to its lighter-weight structure and trimmed-down appeal.

The Air Jordan XII "Playoff" is ready to make its grand return, and you have to be thankful for that.

Adidas NMD_R1 Monochrome Pack

5 of 5

Sneaker: Adidas NMD_R1 Monochrome Pack

Release Date: February 24

With a global release indexed for February 24, Adidas is banking on three colorways to move units. The Monochrome NMD_R1 Pack features red, white and black choices.

It doesn't really make a difference what direction you go in. All three Monochrome models come with Adidas' stretchy mesh material, which is wound tight and pulled over the skeleton of the shoe, as well as a Boost-driven sole.

Adidas has also included the Three Stripe branding on the side of the kicks—something we've come to expect from any NMD release.

Equip yourself with $140 if you want to add the Monochrome Pack to your collection. Similar to any NMD_R1 drop, these will become quick sellers.
