Jaelen Gill to Ohio State: Buckeyes Land 4-Star RB Prospect
Four-star running back Jaelen Gill has committed to Ohio State, giving the squad one of the most explosive offensive players in the 2018 class.
James Grega Jr. of Scout.com relayed the news of the player's decision and noted he played high school ball just 20 minutes away from Ohio State's campus at Westerville South High School.
Gill is considered the sixth-best player at his position and No. 69 player in the 2018 class, per Scout.com.
While Gill is taller than an average running back at 6'1", 180 pounds, he uses his size to excel not only out of the backfield but also at receiver. Wherever he lines up, he is dangerous with the ball in his hands.
The Ohio native is elusive enough to break tackles in crowded spaces while fast enough to run for long touchdowns whenever he touches the ball.
Per ESPN.com, Gill posted a 40-yard dash time of 4.47 seconds with a 20-yard shuttle of 4.01 seconds, both among the best in the class.
Although he missed most of his junior season due to a leg injury, he remains a top prospect with dozens of scholarship offers from around the country.
Despite the numerous options, Gill ended up staying local by committing to Ohio State, something that has been a long time in the making.
"My message to Ohio State fans is basically that I grew up a Buckeye fan, I'll always like Ohio State and I like everything about it," he said the summer before his junior season, per Ari Wasserman of Cleveland.com.
Considering the team's history of utilizing offensive playmakers, this decision was a no-brainer for the young player.
Although there are a few players on the depth chart he will have to beat out for playing time, it would be surprising if Gill does not make an early impact with his new team.
