Aidan Hutchinson to Michigan: Wolverines Land 4-Star DE Prospect
Michigan has landed 2018 defensive end Aidan Hutchinson after the 4-star committed to the team Tuesday on Twitter:
"I would like to thank my family for guiding and supporting me along this recruiting process. Also, a special thanks to all my Devine Child coaches for assisting me in this journey. I am so humbled and grateful to all the school that have shown interest in me. But, I am ready to end this recruiting process and focus on this upcoming season. I am blessed to say that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at the University of Michigan.
"
Hutchinson already has great size for the position at 6'6", 245 pounds. This is part of the reason he is considered the No. 16 defensive end in the class and the No. 202 player overall in 2018, per Scout.
While he doesn't have elite athleticism, he has a great work-rate to force his way into the backfield on almost every play. As he continues to improve his technique, he should be a force against both the run and the pass at the next level.
At the very least, Hutchinson should be able to use his size to clog up running lanes while also freeing up space for teammates to make plays.
This was the expected landing spot for a long time, not only thanks to the proximity for the Dearborn native, but his father, Chris Hutchinson, played for the Wolverines.
"Michigan just keeps on looking better and better any time I go there," he said in early 2016, per Brice Marich of Scout.com.
Although he got plenty of other offers along the way, including several in the Big Ten, no one could match the in-state school.
It might be difficult to compete with all the elite players the Wolverines have added along the defensive line in recent years. Hutchinson could end up redshirting his first year to gain more strength and get acclimated to the system, but the talented player should be able to work his way into the lineup before too long.
