WWE 205 Live Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from December 20
The Cruiserweight Championship match at Roadblock was fun, but all anyone was talking about the next day was Neville's shocking heel turn.
The former NXT champion has struggled to find an identity beyond being a comic-book character come to life since being called up to the main roster, so this character development was needed.
The following night on Raw, Neville gave the best promo of his career. He admonished the WWE Universe for only thinking of him as an underdog, and he warned the entire cruiserweight division of his impending arrival on 205 Live.
As one of the more muscular competitors in the division, Neville will be able to physically dominate the smaller wrestlers while still utilizing his unique style of offense to make sure nobody can outpace him.
This week saw Neville and The Brian Kendrick team up to take on the two men Neville decimated at Roadblock—Rich Swann and TJ Perkins.
Let's take a look at everything that happened on Wednesday's episode of 205 Live.
Ariya Daivari vs. Lince Dorado
1 of 3The first match of the night saw Lince Dorado take on Ariya Daivari. Both men did exactly what you would expect during a typical match.
Dorado showed off his high-flying ability, while Daivari was the more aggressive competitor, choosing to focus on strikes. However, the end saw Daivari take to the air to score the victory.
This was a decent match, but there was no story for the fans to get invested in. Had Jack Gallagher made an appearance to interfere, it might have sparked a reaction.
Grade: C
Notes and Highlights
- This wasn't a bad match at all, but the crowd was not into it. Austin Aries chants could be heard at one point.
- Speaking of Aries, he is great on commentary. When his wrestling career is over, WWE needs to put him at one of the tables.
- With all the feuds WWE is building at once, it might not be a bad idea to hold a special cruiserweight event at Full Sail University. It could even be combined with NXT for a night to add a few more title matches.
Cedric Alexander vs. Drew Gulak
2 of 3Cedric Alexander and Drew Gulak went to battle in the second match of the evening. Both men were aggressive early on, which helped get the crowd to pay attention.
Both of these Superstars should be in the title scene right now, and this bout helped them show everyone why. They held nothing back, and it speaks to their level of dedication to putting on great performances every time they step into the ring.
At one point, Gulak shoved Alexander into Alicia Fox. Noam Dar came out and carried her to the back, furthering his feud with Alexander in the process.
The distraction didn't keep Foxy's boyfriend from hitting the Lumbar Check to get the win. As soon as it was over, he booked it to the back to check on his lady.
Grade: B+
Notes and Highlights
- I don't understand Fox. She acts like a heel when she is alone, but she is dating a babyface.
- More and more people are using the ring ropes as a weapon in different ways. It looks cool, but those ropes have a lot less flexibility than some people may think.
- Alexander could do well outside the cruiserweight division. He is strong enough to slam most competitors, but he has the same kind of agility as AJ Styles and Seth Rollins.
The Brian Kendrick and Neville vs. TJ Perkins and Rich Swann
3 of 3
The self-proclaimed king of the cruiserweights made his 205 Live debut this week when Neville teamed up with The Brian Kendrick to take on TJ Perkins and Rich Swann.
Neville did a great job changing his style to incorporate more stiff strikes and vicious offense. He made beating up the cruiserweight champion look easy.
Neville's constant risk-taking will be missed, but his muscular physique makes him the perfect bully for the division. Kendrick's dirty tactics helped complement Neville's new attitude perfectly.
The pace of this bout wasn't as quick as most matches on 205 Live, but it told a story better than if they had rushed to fit in as many big spots as possible.
Things picked up in the final minutes, with Neville and Swann both hitting some impressive maneuvers. Once the dust settled, it was Kendrick and Neville with their hands raised in victory.
Grade: A-
Notes and Highlights
- The beard helps Neville sell the villainous side of his character. Now that I think about it, almost every heel in WWE has some kind of facial hair right now.
- Before the match, Neville was shown telling Kendrick he wasn't there to make friends. It would be awesome to see them have a match down the line.
- Swann landed right on his face when Kendrick hit him with a reverse STO. He made the move look amazing.
- Neville should keep the Red Arrow in his arsenal, but he needs a finisher the crowd won't cheer for so much.
- The video for this match will be added as soon as WWE makes it available.
