Lowell Narcisse to LSU: Tigers Land 4-Star QB
LSU's coaching decisions continued to pay dividends Monday morning, as 4-star quarterback Lowell Narcisse announced he will become a Tiger:
Narcisse is the No. 227 overall recruit and top-ranked quarterback in the state of Louisiana, according to Scout. He's the nation's 15th-ranked quarterback in the 2017 class.
The decision comes a week after Narcisse reopened his recruitment amid uncertainty about LSU's coaching staff under Ed Orgeron.
"I have thought and prayed long about the situation, and I've decided to de-commit from LSU," Narcisse tweeted. "LSU is a great school and I have much love and respect for the program, but I feel this [is] the best decision for myself right now."
Orgeron hired former Pitt offensive coordinator Matt Canada last Wednesday. Shea Dixon of 247Sports reported Canada, Orgeron, Dameyune Craig and Jabbar Juluke all made a hard push to get Narcisse to reaffirm his commitment over the last week.
This is the second time in a week Orgeron and his staff have saved a quarterback commitment. Myles Brennan, who previously reopened his recruitment in November, gave LSU his verbal last Thursday.
Keeping Narcisse and Brennan in the fold is a big vote of confidence in Canada, who previously served as an offensive coordinator at Northern Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, NC State and Pitt. The 44-year-old was one of five finalists for the Broyles Award, which goes to the nation's top assistant coach.
Narcisse is a fleet-footed lefty who missed nearly his entire senior season with a torn ACL. He's suffered the injury to both of his knees, the first coming in May 2015 before his junior campaign. In total, Narcisse has played little football over the last two years thanks to injuries. His biggest body of work came during his freshman and sophomore seasons, when he looked like one of the nation's most dominant dual threats.
It's more likely than not that Narcisse will take time to develop. He struggled with accuracy as an underclassman, and two years' worth of injuries won't help him get better at finding his reads or finding consistent footwork. That the Tigers stuck with his heavy recruitment speaks to his prodigious talent, but Canada will likely want to work with Narcisse for a year or two before throwing him out for an SEC defense.
