Recap
Costa struck shortly before half-time in south London, heading home from close range to give Chelsea their 11th straight win, this time over Crystal Palace.
Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph was impressed:
The Blues didn't play their best match of the season―far from it―and for the second mach in a row, goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois had to come up big to preserve the three points.
With the win, Chelsea lead the Premier League by nine points, with Arsenal and Liverpool yet to play in Week 17. It's a massive lead heading into the busy holiday season, but with Costa and N'Golo Kante sidelined due to suspension on Boxing Day, it's one that could evaporate in a hurry.
After the match, manager Antonio Conte downplayed his role in the success, per the club's official Twitter account:
The Foxes' bid to grab a win against Stoke was greatly complicated when star forward Vardy was sent off in controversial fashion. The England international left his feet for a challenge on Mame Biram Diouf, and the referee deemed it to be a two-footed challenge even though he got the ball with only one of his feet and barely made contact with Diouf.
As noted by Paddy Power, the visitors ran into a ton of bookings after Vardy got sent off:
Bojan Krkic opened the score from the penalty spot 10 minutes after the dismissal, and Joe Allen doubled the lead to give the hosts a great chance of grabbing three points. Leicester fought back, however, and Leonardo Ulloa gave life to their comeback bid.
Daniel Amartey tied things up shortly before the final whistle, completing an epic comeback. Bleacher Report UK pulled out a classic meme:
West Ham United were aided by a controversial penalty decision, allowing Mark Noble to open the score against Hull City. Michail Antonio went down easily after a duel with Tom Huddlestone, and former England international Gary Lineker didn't like it one bit:
Middlesbrough cruised to an easy win over struggling Swansea City, and Patrick van Aanholt scored the only goal in Sunderland's win over Watford.
During Saturday's final match, Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored twice to lead United to their third straight win. The Swede needed just five minutes to open the scoring, and he added a second goal after half-time to secure the three points.
The result leaves the Red Devils level on points with Tottenham Hotspur, who will play on Sunday.
