WWE Roadblock 2016: Most Likely Heel and Face Turns at PPV Event

Tom ClarkDec 16, 2016

All eyes will be on WWE once again when Roadblock: End of the Line goes live on Sunday. Fans are hoping for the gift of great matches at this Raw-exclusive event, and considering the talent booked, that should be the case.

Big Cass will face Rusev, the man who destroyed his partner, Enzo Amore. The Realest Guy in the Room believed himself to be the next man who could have Lana, but The Bulgarian Brute viciously attacked him in a hotel room. Now, Cass is out for revenge, and he could get it at Roadblock.

The New Day will be defending the Raw Tag Team Championships against Cesaro and Sheamus. The unlikely partners are now on the same page and have finally meshed as a team. Whether that means they will be able to dethrone the record-breaking New Day remains to be seen.

WWE cruiserweight champion Rich Swann will put his newly won title on the line against former champions TJ Perkins and The Brian Kendrick. This match could become a spot-fest, but it is another important chapter in the cruiserweight story that has unfolded on WWE programming.

United States champion Roman Reigns will try to become a double champion when he takes on Kevin Owens for the WWE Universal Championship. Reigns has been the embattled and criticized hero for quite some time, but he is facing Raw's top heel. The match is their chance to shine, and they will likely do just that.

But it wouldn't be Christmas without naughty and nice lists.

That could become apparent during the three other matches booked for Roadblock, as there could be some twists and turns. Those turns could see a revered legend betray the Raw women's champion, a hungry fighter go too far and a popular heel embrace the light.

Anything can happen in WWE, and that will be on display at Roadblock. As fans wait and begin to speculate, the possibilities become clearer.

Ric Flair

1 of 3

Ric Flair has twice been embarrassed and humiliated by his daughter, Charlotte. It's to the point now where many fans are tired of seeing it happen. How many times does the former women's champion need to be put over as a top heel?

But maybe it's all been a calculated plan.

In what would be the unexpected swerve of the night, The Nature Boy could come to the ring and betray WWE Raw women's champion Sasha Banks during the 30-minute Iron Man match. It could be nothing more than a simple distraction, but something could happen at his hands that would cost Banks the title.

Charlotte would be back on her throne, and the Flair family would be reunited once more.

Despite how convoluted that ending would be, WWE is not above going that route. Flair has always been known as The Dirtiest Player in the Game, and Charlotte has followed in his footsteps. It's plausible to assume she would take the easy way out, even during this probable rivalry-ending match.

The advantage in the feud between her and Banks has flipped back and forth several times, and there's been no clear-cut winner thus far. Flair didn't have Charlotte's back at Hell in a Cell, and she won. He also wasn't there for her on the Nov. 28 edition of Raw, and she lost.

But her character must win at Roadblock. If this is indeed the last time the two women will face off, then WWE's continued promotion of Charlotte as the top female athlete on the roster will be in play. If not, then it could be said that Banks has surpassed her.

That may not be the message WWE wants to convey.

That's where Flair comes in, and though the question of who's the better woman will always follow Charlotte from that point on, there's nothing wrong with that. The door is open for Banks to once again get a title opportunity, even if it's not against her rival.

Charlotte has been the best with and without her father. But with one final assist, she would become WWE's new dirtiest player in the game.

Sami Zayn

2 of 3

Fans want to see Sami Zayn do well.

He's been an underdog from the day he hit the main roster, and that's a role he plays well. The indy star fought hard to get where he is, but he has never seemed like the kind of main event attraction WWE wants.

But that hasn't stopped fans from being in his corner.

The challenge he faces at Roadblock is more than anyone could have anticipated, though. Braun Strowman is an absolute monster and has mauled every opponent who has ever been put in front of him. He takes no prisoners, he has no apparent weakness and no one has been able to push him back at all.

Zayn could be the man who does it.

However, he may not do it with just his indomitable spirit alone. Zayn has been backed into a corner, and he could come out harder than fans realize. All he has to do is last 10 minutes with Strowman to prove his manhood, but Zayn may take the easy way out.

He could decide to do things his way and use a weapon to take Strowman down. Though the former Wyatt Family member has not been slowed down to this point, the game changes when steel chairs are introduced. Throw in a Kendo stick for good measure, and Zayn has a real chance to win.

But he could go too far.

In a bizarre twist, Strowman could become the sympathetic figure in this match. If Zayn does indeed take him down and continue to punish him, general manager Mick Foley could come out and try to stop him. One well-placed chair shot to Foley, and Zayn begins to look more like a villain than a hero.

It's an ending that fans likely could never predict and one that would give Zayn some much-needed momentum. He's been standing still for too long, and he would finally have a chance to go in a different direction.

Chris Jericho

3 of 3

Chris Jericho will be facing Seth Rollins at Roadblock, but that's likely not the match WWE fans want to see. They want Jericho vs. Kevin Owens, and that rivalry could finally begin on Sunday.

The two best friends have seen their partnership tested in recent weeks, and it now looks as though it's over. KO is popular, and he's respected for the work he's done as WWE's top heel, but it's Y2J who fans want to see emerge as the hero of the story.

Jericho is just too entertaining and too funny to not be a babyface.

Fans want to see the turn happen, as it would set up the feud between him and Owens. The WWE Universal Championship is one of the top two titles in the company, and it deserves five-star matches. That has not been the case for quite some time, mostly because of Jericho's interference on Owens' behalf.

But that can all change at Roadblock.

The first shot of the face turn can be fired in Jericho's match with Rollins. KO can make his presence known in the bout as a way to get revenge on his former best friend, causing Jericho to lose.

That would open the door for Jericho to interfere in the main event later that night.

Jericho's interference during the Universal Championship match could cost Owens the championship. If that happens, then the two would move on to a new feud. But Jericho could instead help Owens win and then hit him with a Codebreaker after the match.

That would set Jericho up as the next challenger for KO's championship, and fans would finally get the match they want to see. No matter what happens, the fact is that Jericho's face turn seems inevitable. There's no reason why that turn shouldn't happen at Roadblock.
