WWE 205 Live Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from December 13

The Doctor Chris MuellerDec 13, 2016

This is only the third week for WWE's newest show, 205 Live, but it's already helping the cruiserweight division in a big way.

More characters are being given individual attention and more storylines are being developed outside the feud for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship.

Rich Swann battled TJ Perkins in the main event, giving us a small preview of their upcoming match at Roadblock with The Brian Kendrick.

This week's show featured three great singles matches with six incredibly gifted Superstars, with one of them being the debuting Mustafa Ali. He made a good impression during the Cruiserweight Classic, so it was great to see him brought back.

Let's take a look at what happened on the third episode of WWE 205 Live.

Jack Gallagher vs. Drew Gulak

1 of 3

In the short time since 205 Live debuted, WWE has done a decent job building up a second feud between Jack Gallagher and Ariya Daivari.

Gallagher fought Drew Gulak in the first match of the night, but the announcers made sure to push the storyline with Daivari.

Gulak is an outstanding technician who also likes to brawl, so his style complemented Gallagher's well. Both men used some unique offense to make this a fun contest.

After a competitive bout, Gallagher picked up the win with a running corner dropkick. The "extraordinary gentleman" is gaining momentum, and it wouldn't be shocking to see him receive a title shot in the near future.

Grade: B+

Notes and Highlights

  • It's a little surprising the announcers don't make fun of how pale Gallagher is like they do with Sheamus.
  • It was nice to see Gulak get a good reaction from his hometown fans.
  • It's great to see more in the cruiserweight division than the stereotypical high-flyers we usually associate with the division. A good technical match can be just as good as any spotfest.
  • Gallagher and Daivari had a confrontation backstage. Gallagher offered to shake hands and make things even, but Daivari wasn't willing to let things go.

Lince Dorado vs. Mustafa Ali

2 of 3

For those who were impressed with Ali during the Cruiserweight Classic, it was good to see him make his 205 Live debut against someone like Lince Dorado.

Both men like to use their agility to make matches exciting, so they were able to do things with each other they might not be able to do with someone who likes to wrestle a more grounded style.

Unfortunately, both men ended up being counted out after Dorado hit a moonsault from the ropes down to the floor. Both men were unhappy with the decision, but Dorado was willing to shake hands.

Ali was too bitter to let things end peacefully, so he took a cheap shot at Dorado, only to end up being sent out of the ring by the masked Superstar.

Grade: B

Notes and Highlights

  • An awesome video package for Tajiri played before this match. It made him look like the brutal competitor he was during the Cruiserweight Classic, not the comedy character he was during his original WWE run. Having another veteran like him will help to further legitimize the division.
  • It's hard to remember the last time WWE had a Middle-Eastern or Indian babyface besides The Great Khali. Ali should have been brought in as a good guy. His style is better suited for a fan favorite.
  • Noam Dar was shown unsuccessfully trying to hit on Alicia Fox backstage after the match.

TJ Perkins vs. Rich Swann

3 of 3

Kendrick sat with the commentary team while the main event took place. Perkins and Swann had a short interaction backstage that saw them keep it friendly while letting each other know they won't hold back during their title match at Roadblock.

Kendrick's presence on commentary was a nice addition to keep the storyline going while the two babyfaces fought each other in a non-title contest.

This match saw Swann and Perkins go move for move and counter for counter as they proved they are equally agile and versatile in the ring.

The first half of the bout was all right, but they picked up the pace at the halfway mark. After tweaking his knee early in the match, Swann was forced to tap out and give Perkins the win.

Grade: B+

Notes and Highlights

  • Austin Aries is such a great addition to the commentary team. He and Corey Graves play off each other perfectly.
  • Perkins was displaying a few heel traits during this match. Hopefully it's a sign of a turn coming for him.
  • Kendrick tried to shake hands with both men after the match, but Perkins delivered a superkick to send him out of the ring.
