WWE Raw: Burning Questions to Address After Dec. 12 Show

Ryan DilbertDec 13, 2016

By the end of Monday's WWE Raw, Sami Zayn obtained the match he had been demanding, and Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods were the longest-reigning tag team champions in company history.

But now what? How will WWE build on these developments?

A persistent Zayn is now set to face Braun Strowman at the Roadblock: End of the Line pay-per-view on Sunday. Raw general manager Mick Foley added quite the twist to the matchup, and WWE now has an increased number of narrative options at its disposal.

As for The New Day, the colorful, gyrating trio made history on Monday night. When the fireworks peter out and the party dies down, where will the champions head?

Their part in the Roadblock: End of the Line puzzle is unknown for now.

The timing of Emmalina's re-debut and Jack Gallagher's potential impact on the cruiserweight division are among the other items fans were left wondering about after Monday's Raw. Read on, as we dive into the biggest questions to emerge from WWE's trip to Philadelphia.

Who Will Finally Stop The New Day?

Four teams stood in The New Day's path on Monday night, and none of them could derail the trio's pursuit of history.

Kingston, Big E and Woods fended off challengers in a pair of Triple Threat matches to assure that they would break Demolition's longstanding record as WWE's longest-reigning tag champs.

The Club, Chris Jericho and AJ Styles, The Lucha Dragons, The Usos and even a reunited Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins couldn't topple The New Day in its 470-plus days holding the belts.

So who will finally knock the trio off the top of the mountain? Who will WWE give that coveted spot to as the duo that finally vanquished The New Day?

Sheamus and Cesaro are the most likely candidates to next win the Raw Tag Team Championships. But the European bruisers have already failed in three tries.

Even so, they have a lot more momentum than the poorly booked Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson.

More pertinent than when The New Day will fall, though, is who the champs will face next. As Andrew M. Swift of Cageside Seats pointed out, the record-breaking trio is without a dance partner at Sunday's PPV:

That "top guys" reference is a nod to NXT's The Revival. The former NXT tag champs would make a great fit as the newcomers who stormed onto the stage and ripped the gold from The New Day's grip.

That's a fun scenario to imagine. WWE may opt for something more simple and let Cesaro and Sheamus get another crack.

Can Jack Gallagher Ignite the Cruiserweight Division?

Athleticism and great ring work haven't been enough to get casual fans to care about the cruiserweight division. Crowds have been uncomfortably quiet as men like TJ Perkins and Drew Gulak have stepped into the ring.

The mustached Gallagher has infused the division with a different energy, though.

On Monday's Raw, The Extraordinary Gentleman interrupted rival Ariya Daivari's match. Gallagher was well-mannered enough to let him know that he would be interfering in the bout.

That moment alone sparked something the division has sorely needed.

As we have seen since his Raw debut on Dec. 5, Gallagher is an intriguing character. He stands out, thanks to his refinement and odd in-ring arsenal. He's fun, different and quirky.

The cruiserweight division has too many generic grapplers. Gallagher offers a reprieve from that.

He can't save the cruiserweights on his own, but his presence will be invaluable. The British mat master will provide the division with a jolt. Showcasing more characters will be key to building on that.

How Long Until Emmalina Arrives?

For weeks, WWE has promised to reveal Emma's transition into Emmalina. Vignettes have hinted at the former NXT star adopting a model-like gimmick.

Her reintroduction was supposed to happen on Monday night. WWE had previously announced Emmalina was on the way, but on Raw, it simply showed another video package that told fans Emmalina would be premiering "soon."

Is this going to be Curt Hawkins all over again? Is WWE going to keep delaying her arrival until fans stop caring?

Voices of Wrestling wanted answers after Monday's no-show:

After Roadblock, WWE will have ample time to plug Emmalina into the mix. But is pushing back her "debut" a sign of her being a low priority? We saw that with Hawkins, who has made little impact on SmackDown after making his own re-entry into the WWE fold.

Emmalina is too good to receive that treatment.

How Will WWE Use 10-Minute Stipulation?

Zayn finally has the match he wants...sort of.

After continually begging Foley for an opportunity against the monstrous Strowman, Zayn is now set to face the big man at Roadblock. But Foley booked it as a 10-minute match, hinting that the babyface only needs to survive the bout, not actually win it.

That could lead this story in a number of directions.

Zayn could get gutsy points for hanging in there for nine minutes or so before losing. Strowman could destroy him well within that time frame. Or Zayn could get a victory of sorts by lasting the time limit, leading to a second match without a timer ticking away.

This time-limit stipulation is one not often seen in WWE. It may turn out to be a corny mess, but for now, it has added intrigue to the action.

Regularly, it would be easy to predict Zayn's destruction if he were facing Strowman. The developments on Raw suddenly made the outcome less certain, and that's a win in the wrestling world.
