WWE Roadblock 2016: Early Predictions for Updated Match Card

Aaron BowerDec 12, 2016

WWE's final pay-per-view of the year will air on Sunday when Roadblock: End of the Line goes live, and there are bound to be some twists to set some of Raw's biggest stars up for explosive starts to 2017.

With the Royal Rumble pay-per-view just around the corner on Jan. 29, there will likely be countless storyline developments for Raw's top talent as the build to WrestleMania prepares to get underway once again.

But who will win Roadblock's biggest bouts? Will Kevin Owens hold on to the WWE Universal Championship? Can Seth Rollins kick off his quest to take down Triple H with a win against Chris Jericho? And who will win the final meeting between Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair?

All of those questions and more will be answered Sunday, but for now, here's a look at some early predictions, as well as some other bouts that could be added to the card.

Pay-Per-View Card

1 of 4

As of this writing, only three matches are confirmed for Roadblock: End of the Line. However, the go-home edition of Raw will likely add plenty more to the card. So far, the confirmed matches are as follows:

  • Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte Flair (30-minute Iron Man match, WWE Raw Women's Championship)
  • Seth Rollins vs. Chris Jericho
  • Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns (WWE Universal Championship)

Expect to see The New Day in action, assuming it holds onto its WWE Tag Team Championship belts Monday night. It will likely face Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson or Cesaro and Sheamus.

Sami Zayn vs. Braun Strowman also looks like a good bet to join the card, and with the WWE United States Championship not being defended due to Reigns' involvement in the main event, midcard Superstars will have plenty of other opportunities to impress.

Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte Flair

2 of 4

WWE will bring the curtain down on one of the most entertaining and enjoyable women's division feuds in years at Roadblock.

Will Charlotte Flair continue the trend of the WWE Raw Women's Championship being passed around like a hot potato? Or will Sasha Banks retain and head into 2017 as champion?

The smarter bet looks like Banks right now. With Ric Flair likely to be involved in some capacity, there could be an interesting dynamic at work, but the more intriguing aspect to this match is the stipulation.

The 30-minute Iron Man bout will be one of the best matches on the card, if not the best. Flair and Banks have done plenty to enhance the women's division's reputation in just a few short months, and this should be a fitting end to their feud as they prepare to move on and face new adversaries.

But in terms of an early prediction, the smart money is on Banks retaining. She's earned it.

Seth Rollins vs. Chris Jericho

3 of 4

It's clear that Triple H lies in wait for Seth Rollins in the early part of 2017, but the big question regarding Rollins' match with Chris Jericho this Sunday is whether The Game will make an appearance.

For the first time since being screwed out of the WWE Universal Championship earlier this year, Rollins publicly addressed Triple H's actions last week on Raw. It's almost like the company has been waiting to get his feud with Kevin Owens out of the way before allowing him to speak about his issues with Triple H.

But now that he's gunning for the COO, could Triple H show up and ignite their feud for real?

It seems possible. Perhaps WWE will wait to pull the trigger until the Royal Rumble, where the COO can cost Rollins in the Royal Rumble match.

If that is the case, who gets the win Sunday? With Rollins building up to such a big feud, it's fair to say he needs the victory more than Jericho does. This is likely to be a stopgap for The Architect on the road to meeting Triple H, so pinning a loss on him without any interference wouldn't make sense.

Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns

4 of 4

After earning his shot on Raw two weeks ago, Roman Reigns will get his chance to win the WWE Universal Championship on Sunday—despite already holding another title on Raw.

The fact that Reigns hasn't dropped the United States Championship suggests that this feud may not go on for too long; he could soon go back to defending that title.

In essence, it's hard to see how Owens loses this weekend. Sure, Chris Jericho could come down and screw his former best friend, but what if this is another work from the Canadian duo? Could they fool fans once again like they did on The Highlight Reel last month?

A feud between Jericho and Owens would be great, but it would have to be for the WWE Universal Championship. If Reigns wins and those two guys take up a rivalry—especially with Seth Rollins likely to be tied up with Triple H—who is there for Reigns to fight?

The title has to stay around Owens' waist this weekend. Expect some shenanigans—but also a KO victory.
