Seth Rollins vs. Chris Jericho: Winner and Reaction for WWE Roadblock 2016

Mike ChiariDec 18, 2016

Seth Rollins gained some revenge against Chris Jericho Sunday night at Roadblock: End of the Line, beating him in a grudge match.

Rollins owes a debt of gratitude to Kevin Owens. Owens came to ringside and inadvertently distracted the referee as Jericho had Rollins rolled up in a pin.

That led to an argument between Jericho and Owens. Rollins capitalized on their disagreement to deliver the Pedigree for the win. WWE shared a photo of Rollins securing the pinfall:

Bleacher Report's Ryan Dilbert thought Owens should see the writing on the wall between he and Jericho:

WhatCulture's Adam Pacitti wondered if Jericho will return the favor later on in the night:

The issues between Jericho and Rollins date back to Rollins' loss in a Fatal 4-Way match won by Owens for the vacant Universal Championship.

After Triple H screwed over Rollins to ensure KO's victory, The Man engaged in a feud with Owens, only for Y2J to get involved on multiple occasions.

Chief among them was the Universal Championship match at Hell in a Cell in which Jericho got himself inside the cell and essentially turned it into a handicap match. That allowed The Prizefighter to retain and forced Rollins to place even more of his focus on Jericho.

It was far from the last time that Jericho would stick his nose in Rollins' business; he also interfered during a No Disqualification title match between Rollins and Owens on Raw.

While Jericho was banned from ringside, he lurked in the crowd under a Sin Cara mask and did enough to throw Rollins off his game by attacking him and allowing Owens to come away victorious and retain the belt.

An understandably furious Rollins got back at Jericho the next week on Raw by jumping him in the parking lot and hitting him with a Pedigree on top of a car.

Rollins made it clear that getting retribution against Jericho was a contributing factor in his actions, but he also revealed he had some ulterior motives, such as sending a message to The Game, according to WWE Universe on Twitter:

The two-time WWE world champion also expressed his desire to get to Owens by taking out Jericho due to his belief that KO can't cut it without his best friend in the fold, via WWE Universe:

Rollins had plenty of motivation and every reason to beat Jericho Sunday, but Y2J had plenty to prove in his own right.

Despite the fact he is one of the all-time greatest wrestlers and a first-ballot Hall of Famer, Jericho appeared to feel unappreciated and taken for granted by Owens in recent weeks.

A win over a top guy such as Rollins was an ideal way to prove his worth, but prevailing was easier said than done.

Sunday's bout marked the first pay-per-view singles match between Rollins and Jericho, but they had previously shown they had good in-ring chemistry in their meetings on Raw.

That manifested itself once again at Roadblock, as they put on a strong match that made both Superstars look good.

Rollins was victorious, however, which likely establishes him as a threat to win next month's Royal Rumble, although Jericho still promises to be in the mix as well.
