Justin Tucker, John Harbaugh Propose Giving Point for Kickoffs Through Goal Post
The NFL has tinkered with its kicking rules, recently moving back extra-point attempts and pushing kickoffs from the 30 to the 35-yard line. If Justin Tucker and John Harbaugh had their way, the league would add another wrinkle to reward kickers.
During the Baltimore Ravens' Week 12 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, Tucker converted three field goals from over 50 yards. He also sent a kickoff sailing through the uprights, a nice aesthetic that didn't earn his team anything but a touchback.
After the game, per CSN Mid-Atlantic's Bo Smolka, the kicker advocated for awarding an extra point for booting the kickoff through the goal post: "Maybe you get a point for putting the ball through the uprights on a kickoff. I'd really appreciate that. Especially a day like today. You're playing a close game, a division rival. Any points you can get, they're hard to come by. If you can get ‘em like that, I'm all for it."

His head coach agreed, but it was hard to tell if he was sincere.
"I'm on record advocating that should be a point," Harbaugh said. "I'm serious now, kinda. Really, how exciting would that make it, for him to make these kickoff touchbacks so valuable? Let's do it. Let's go for it."
It makes sense that the Ravens are pushing for a rule change rewarding kickers. Tucker has yet to miss an extra point (15-of-15) or field goal (27-of-27) all season.
They should also suggest allocating four or five fantasy points for a 50-yard field goal.
It's unlikely the NFL takes their proposal to heart. After making the extra point tougher, why create an opportunity for kickers to earn a free point?
