Real Madrid Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Romelu Lukaku and Aaron Ramsey

Rory MarsdenNov 18, 2016

Everton manager Ronald Koeman has insisted that he wants Romelu Lukaku to remain at Goodison Park despite recently stating the Real Madrid target needed to move on to further his career.

Per Carl Markham of the Press Association (h/t the Irish Independent), the Dutchman told Belgian newspaper HLN that Lukaku's "potential is greater and higher than Everton as a final destination."

Koeman has now clarified his comments while also revealing there is a lot of interest in the 23-year-old Belgian striker, per Reuters (via Marca):

"

Of course there is a lot of interest in the player and finally the player needs to make a decision... what I tried to do is keep Romelu for as long as possible at the club.

All you had several headlines about what I said about different questions. It is not to defend myself but you take the headline out of context.

What we like to show Romelu is that we at Everton will grow, we will be bigger and we will fight for titles.

If you look now at Everton, if Everton stays at this level then of course it is not good that he finishes his career at Everton because he is one of the best strikers and he is still 23.

He took the decision to stay [in the summer] because he had a good feeling with what was happening from the start of this season.

"

As noted by Koeman, Lukaku could have left Everton in the summer after being linked to several major European clubs.

Earlier this year, Lukaku's agent, Mino Raiola, named Real as one of the clubs interested in signing him up, per La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Press Association, via MailOnline).

"Lukaku? Of course, Juventus as a solution could go well," said Raiola. "But keep an eye on PSG and Real Madrid too for the Everton striker."

Atletico Madrid have also been linked with the former Chelsea man, who could depart Everton at the end of the season even if he pens a new deal, according to Dean Jones of Bleacher Report:

Los Blancos' interest in Lukaku is likely still keen as he has netted seven goals and provided three assists in 10 Premier League appearances so far in 2016-17, per WhoScored.com.

Despite being just 23, he has already made more than 150 Premier League appearances, and he has been one of the division's most consistent goalscorers for the past five seasons.

Along with 24-year-old Alvaro Morata, Lukaku could form a brilliant long-term attacking partnership at Real, and, despite Koeman's clarification, it seems the Belgium international might be available in the summer at the right price.

Meanwhile, Real are also reportedly planning to make a £25 million move for Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey as manager Zinedine Zidane prepares to add midfield reinforcements.

According to Phil Cadden in the Sun, Real rate Ramsey, 25, highly because of his versatility—he can play centrally and wide both in advanced and deeper positions—while his transfer value is relatively low as his contract with the Gunners runs out in 2018.

Injury has restricted the Welshman to only 99 Premier League minutes in 2016-17, and competition for places in the Arsenal side is now more fierce than ever given the quality of Alex Iwobi, Francis Coquelin, Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny.

Per Cadden, Real will look to tempt Ramsey with the offer of regular game time and a salary increase, with James Rodriguez and Luka Modric's potential departures next summer freeing up finance and places in the team.
