Tottenham Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Daniel Sturridge and Rachid Ghezzal

Matt JonesNov 16, 2016

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to renew their interest in Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge after they were put off by the player's £40 million valuation in the summer.

According to Bleacher Report's Dean Jones, the striker is keen to show he can still cut it at the highest level, having fallen down the pecking order at Anfield under manager Jurgen Klopp, and he could push for a move. It's suggested that should he force a transfer, Spurs would be keen to get him on board, with his valuation down from the summer.

Here's a listen to what Jones had to say about the Reds striker, who is said to be keen on making a move to the capital:

Liverpool have utilised Roberto Firmino at the point of the attack in their best displays this season, with the fluidity of the Reds' forward forays key to their rise to the summit of the Premier League table. It's meant Sturridge has been on the bench for portions of the campaign and has yet to score a league goal.

However, when he has been involved, the former Chelsea man has impressed. Starting against Spurs in a recent EFL Cup match, he bagged a brace, while the striker was scintillating in a substitute appearance against Watford recently, rattling the woodwork on a couple of occasions.

With England, he's been in brilliant goalscoring form, too, although as noted by the Sunday Times' Jonathan Northcroft, the team does lack impetus when he's up top:

Nevertheless, it's vital to have different kinds of footballers to call upon up top, and while Liverpool's attack is blossoming at the moment, there will come a time in the season when Klopp has to change things. Indeed, it'd be a huge surprise if the manager didn't utilise Sturridge frequently over what'll be a crucial and congested festive period.

That means it'll be difficult for Spurs to convince the Reds to sell in January, regardless of whether or not the player wants to leave or not. In summer signing Vincent Janssen, at least manager Mauricio Pochettino now has a capable deputy for star goal-getter Harry Kane.

Spurs Linked with Rachid Ghezzal

According to Mercato 365 (h/t Sport Witness), Tottenham are ready to battle with West Ham United and Everton to sign Rachid Ghezzal from Lyon on a free transfer.

The winger's deal with the Ligue 1 side is set to expire at the end of the campaign and subsequently, he's free to discuss a pre-contract from January with a view to a summer move. It's an option Spurs are said to be exploring.

As noted in the Sport Witness piece, according to L'Equipe's Bilel Ghazi, the winger rejected Everton in the summer because of a lack of European football at Goodison Park. That's something that could give Spurs an edge over the Toffees and West Ham.

If they were to lure Ghezzal to White Hart Lane, Spurs would be getting an exciting young player. Here's a look at why there's so much buzz around the 24-year-old:

In a style not too dissimilar to Erik Lamela, the Algeria international is at his best on the right flank. From there, he has the class to attack his marker on the inside and outside, in addition to dropping infield into spaces and linking the play. In terms of technical flair and dribbling ability, he's among the best in French football.

There are some areas of his game that need to be refined, most notably in terms of decision-making and composure in front of goal. However, if those raw attributes could be harnessed in the right style, Ghezzal could be a star. Landing him on a free transfer, therefore, would be savvy business by Spurs.
