Tottenham Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Morgan Schneiderlin and Moussa Marega
Tottenham Hotspur will compete with Crystal Palace for the £12.5 million capture of Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, while also tracking Porto striker Moussa Marega ahead of the January transfer window.
Schneiderlin's stay at Old Trafford has been a failure after signing for previous Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal, and his former coach Mauricio Pochettino appears ready to rescue him from his disappointment in the north-west.
According to the Sunday Mirror (h/t David Wright of the Express), the former Southampton star could be heading to the capital after playing only five minutes of Premier League football since Jose Mourinho's arrival at Old Trafford. The self-proclaimed Special One could be tempted to sell the player for half the amount United paid for him when he arrived from the Saints.

Spurs will receive competition from Liverpool for the services of Marega as they chase the powerful attacker currently on loan at Vitoria de Guimaraes.
According to L'Equipe (h/t TalkSport), both Premier League contenders are interested in the player who has netted 10 goals already this term. The Mali international was monitored by Watford last summer, with the striker containing a £35 million release clause in his current deal.
Here is the player in action:
Pochettino recently admitted he cannot chase the players at the top echelon of the game as Spurs build their new £400 million stadium at White Hart Lane.
Tom Collomosse of the London Evening Standard quoted the Tottenham boss explaining his predicament in the transfer market:
"Today the project is completely different to Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea.
I think you can see. Sometimes it is difficult to speak about that because you or our fans can take it in a bad way, a negative way.
But I think we need to take it in a positive way. We know we are building a new stadium and you know what can happen when you spend a lot of money.
It is true it is not good to talk about that, I don't like to talk about that.
"
Schneiderlin's spell at the Theatre of Dreams has baffled fans, and he has been unable to convince successive managers of his pedigree and qualities.
Football writer Liam Canning recently declared that he thinks the player should be given an extended run in the United first team with Ander Herrera:

The Lane is the perfect place for the Frenchman to land and start again, and his proven chemistry with the current coach will benefit him.
He has lost confidence at United and needs games to prove his worth once more, making Palace a genuine contender as Spurs consider a bid.
Schneiderlin's natural game and skill set lends itself to Pochettino's recent set of tactics used, and if he can show he is still the same individual who shone at St Mary's, he will be a complete steal at the quoted price.
