Chelsea Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Steven N'Zonzi and Stefan de Vrij

Rob BlanchetteNov 7, 2016

Sevilla midfielder Steven N'Zonzi has admitted he is flattered by Chelsea's interest in him but has said he is not planning on leaving La Liga in the near future after reports linked him with a move back to England.

The former Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers player told French newspaper L'Equipe he will be one of many operators the Blues will be looking at ahead of the January transfer window, but he is happy plying his trade in Spain (h/t David Wright of the Express):

"

It's nice, it's good [to be linked with Chelsea].

But I always say that this type of club is interested in other players too.

I am not the only one. I know that big clubs are interested in many players. I focus on what I do at Sevilla. Until there is something concrete, we must remain professional.

Some clubs were interested [in the summer], but I feel good at Sevilla.

I enjoy the game, the football, I like the way Sevilla play, I feel good in the city, with the fans and the club and I'm enjoying myself.

After helping the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan team to yet another Europa League success last term, the 27-year-old is in talks with his club to extend his contract, which currently includes a £26.5 million release fee, according to L'Equipe.

According to TalkSportArsenal also want the Frenchman and are "keeping tabs" on his situation, with a potential swoop planned for the uncapped ace. Juventus have also been linked with a move for the defensive midfielder.

Sky Sports' Guillem Balague suggested the champions of Spain are also interested in N'Zonzi:

N'Zonzi arrived in English football in 2009, completing three impressive seasons at Blackburn before switching to Stoke.

The dominant talent appeared 40 times for Sevilla in La Liga and Europe last season, according to WhoScored.com, scooping European honours in the process.

Here is the midfielder in action for his team:

In other Blues news, manager Antonio Conte will battle Arsene Wenger for the services of Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij.

Italian news outlet Repubblica reported the London giants will compete for the £32 million-rated star, despite the Roman club offering the 24-year-old a "bumper contract" to remain in Serie A (h/t Alex Wood of the Daily Star).

The Netherlands international could be paired with recent acquisition David Luiz, forming a strong spine for Conte's rejuvenated side.

However, Italian newspaper Il Tempo believes the player will stay with his club after missing most of last season through injury (h/t Football Italia).

N'Zonzi and De Vrij would both bring added power and concentration to Stamford Bridge, allowing Conte to vary his tactics without compromising his defence.

The French midfielder's knowledge of the English game would be an added bonus for the Italian coach, and he would slip into proceedings in west London with little fuss during the the winter period, should he arrive.

De Vrij would act as a potential long-term replacement for John Terry at the heart of the back line, allowing Luiz to play with more freedom after a disciplined return to his former club from Paris Saint-Germain during the summer.
