EFL Cup, Carabao Announce Sponsorship Deal: Latest Details, Comments, Reaction

The English Football League has announced yet another name change for the EFL Cup, as the iconic tournament will be known as the Carabao Cup starting in the 2017-18 season.

Per BBC Sport, the Thai energy-drink brand, who is already a shirt sponsor for Reading, will pay £18 million for a three-year deal with the EFL.

Per the report, previous sponsors of the EFL Cup include Milk Marketing Board, Littlewoods, Rumbelows, Coca-Cola, Worthington's and Carling.

Fans have been making fun of the tournament's many name changes for years, and the latest didn't sit well with everyone.

Best known as the League Cup, the EFL Cup has been around since 1960 and pits Premier League clubs against teams from the EFL system down to League Two.

It's unique in England in that it finishes well ahead of the the two other major domestic competitions, the Premier League and FA Cup. Manchester City are the current holders of the title, known last year as the Capital One Cup.
