WWE Hell in a Cell 2016: Biggest Winners and Losers from Marquee Event
History was made at WWE Hell in a Cell 2016, an event where some of Raw's stumbling Superstars took major steps forward.
There was both good and bad for the red brand, though, with some stars taking significant hits to their stocks after some unexpected defeats.
There were tag teams that took major steps forward and women who will come out of Hell in a Cell in worse positions as Survivor Series approaches.
The following is a review of the night's biggest winners and losers.
Winners: Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson
1 of 4It has been a fairly turgid start to life in WWE for Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, but a winning start to their feud with Enzo Amore and Big Cass gives them a platform to build on.
Expected to come in and take the tag division by storm, the two have struggled to make their marks in their first few months with the company.
But Sunday should represent the start of a big push for one of the division's most exciting duos.
Moving forward, this feud with Enzo and Cass could be the start of something special. If it is booked properly, it could be the start of both teams moving into the Raw Tag Team Championship picture.
But with The New Day retaining its titles on Sunday, Gallows and Anderson remain the biggest and most credible threats to ending its reign with the belts.
Hell in a Cell was a major night for the duo.
Loser: Rusev
2 of 4Rusev has looked imposing and intimidating in recent weeks, but it still wasn't enough for him to prevail at Hell in a Cell on Sunday.
Another defeat to Roman Reigns saw the United States Championship pass him by once again, and it's difficult to imagine he'll get another shot in the next few months.
This is an unusual situation for The Bulgarian Brute. His stock has not fallen by any stretch of the imagination, but his next feud will have to be a good one to keep this momentum going.
Perhaps he's on a slow road to becoming a babyface, as he displayed some mannerisms on Sunday night that showed him to be a good guy.
But defeat was a major blow for Rusev, who now arrives at an interesting and intriguing crossroad with Survivor Series on the horizon.
Winner: Brian Kendrick
3 of 4The journey of Brian Kendrick as he desperately seeks to keep his WWE career alive has been one of the rare glimpses of effective storytelling from WWE's cruiserweight division.
But for all the excellent work Kendrick has done in creating a character fans can both get interested in and dislike as a heel, there had to be an end game to it all on Sunday.
Thankfully, WWE saw that was the case, and it had him win the Cruiserweight Championship from T.J. Perkins.
Kendrick also won in a manner that continued to cement him as an effective heel in WWE. He gets better and better as the weeks go on, and with the title around his waist, he will continue to thrive.
Now should be the time for someone like Rich Swann to step up and show his worth as Kendrick battles to remain the cruiserweight division's most interesting, intriguing and worthwhile star.
Loser: Sasha Banks
4 of 4
She played her part in history on Sunday when both she and Charlotte stepped inside Hell in a Cell, but the pay-per-view as a whole saw Sasha Banks come up short when it mattered.
Once again, she has surrendered the title to Charlotte, and it is difficult to work out what happens next for The Boss.
She is entitled to a rematch, but after a bruising defeat in her hometown, it could be time for Charlotte to take on a new challenge.
Bayley is the obvious candidate after her win on Sunday against Dana Brooke, and that could spell bad news for The Boss and her fans.
The next couple of weeks as Survivor Series approaches will be interesting, to say the least.
