WWE Hell in a Cell 2016 Results: Power Ranking Every Match at PPV

Aaron BowerOct 31, 2016

Raw upped its game in the brand war on Sunday night with a solid, exciting and entertaining Hell in a Cell pay-per-view.

The red brand stuck to its guns and trusted Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair to headline the show inside the PPV's eponymous structure, and they certainly didn't disappoint.

The three matches inside Hell in a Cell were backed up by solid encounters from start to finish, and the whole show sets up an intriguing for Raw's biggest names.

The following is a ranking of all seven matches on the main show, assessing which ones caught the imagination and which felt more like filler than PPV bouts.

7. Bayley vs. Dana Brooke

1 of 7

With the spotlight on Sasha Banks and Charlotte in the main event, Bayley and Dana Brooke's match felt more like padding.

It was by no means a poor contest on a night with strong matches throughout, but it had a distinct feel of a bout that would take place on Raw rather than one you'd expect to see on pay-per-view.

Bayley's victory gave her some much-needed momentum. With Charlotte winning the Raw Women's Championship, has a spot opened up for a new challenger at the head of the division?

As for Dana, she continued to show promise, having broken away from Charlotte and became her own woman. The paths both competitors will take from here will be engaging viewing.

6. Enzo and Cass vs. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson

2 of 7

Two of Raw's most exciting tag teams did a decent job of showing there is depth and talent beyond the tag title rivalry, which was focused on later in the night.

It certainly wasn't the best bout of the night—as with Bayley vs. Dana Brooke, it did have the feel of a contest that belonged on Raw.

But it was a solid outing and added some much-needed depth to the card.

How WWE plays things out with these two teams from here will be fascinating. This could easily be a feud for the tag titles around the time of WrestleMania, but keeping the momentum of both tandems is crucial.

That's why a win for Gallows and Anderson, who have stuttered since joining WWE in April, was vital. It allows these guys to go around again.

5. The New Day vs. Sheamus and Cesaro

3 of 7

The New Day moved another step closer to surpassing Demolition as the longest reigning WWE tag team champions in history, but they did so in one of the more forgettable bouts of their tenure so far.

The pace of the contest was great, and Sheamus and Cesaro continued to develop as the unlikely tag team every roster needs.

It seemed like they could even win on a couple of occasions, but in the end, some shenanigans from Kofi Kingston ensured the champions held on to the belts for the time being.

However, the finish to a solid-enough match should enable Sheamus and Cesaro to have another crack at the titles.

4. TJ Perkins vs. Brian Kendrick

4 of 7

The cruiserweight division has struggled since it returned to Raw earlier this year, but Sunday night could prove to be a defining moment for it moving forward.

T.J. Perkins didn't have a successful time with the Cruiserweight Championship, and the story of Brian Kendrick, the desperate veteran looking to remain at the top, is a far more interesting one to head up the division with.

That Kendrick cheated his way to victory only enhanced his character even further, which is no bad thing for a division that has struggled with storytelling.

Moving forward, now is the time to tell WWE fans about the characters of the cruiserweight competitors. Everyone knows they can wrestle. It's time to get fans relating to their personalities a bit better.

With Kendrick holding the title, that task should become a lot easier.

3. Roman Reigns vs. Rusev

5 of 7

WWE's most brutal rivalry of 2016 so far didn't disappoint inside Hell in a Cell, although it was far from the best match of the night.

The energy both Roman Reigns and Rusev have brought to their feud is a long way from the disappointing start with which the rivalry began.

And inside Hell in a Cell, they both delivered.

There were some great moments, particularly when Rusev appeared desperately close to victory, having Reigns locked in The Accolade on the steel steps.

But Reigns eventually prevailed, and it might now be time for The Big Dog to take on a fresh foe.

2. Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte Flair

6 of 7

The history-defining night for the women's division inside Hell in a Cell certainly lived up to expectations.

The early storytelling, with Banks seemingly unable to compete before valiantly fighting back, was a valuable part of the match's dynamic.

It allowed Charlotte to thrive as the magnificent heel she has become, systematically targeting the back of her opponent throughout the match.

Both women put their bodies on the line in some bruising spots that left no doubt about the place of women inside the demonic structure.

The result may upset some, with Banks being forced to surrender the belt in her hometown, but moving forward, these two look set for more meetings as they dominate the Raw women's division.

On a night when history was waiting to be made, neither woman disappointed.

1. Seth Rollins vs. Kevin Owens

7 of 7

Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens stuttered and stumbled their way to Hell in a Cell, but both men brought the best out of each other on Sunday night.

It was exactly what a match inside the structure should be from start to finish. It had drama, false finishes and extremity throughout.

The storytelling was sensational and fitting with WWE's plans for both men. Owens, the heel champion, sneaked a victory, courtesy of some major help from his best friend, Chris Jericho.

Rollins put in a strong performance, looking to have come desperately close to winning the Universal Championship on a number of occasions.

It gives both men a great platform from which to move into the latter part of the year. It was the night's top match without a doubt.
