Jimbo Fisher, Pat Narduzzi Fined by ACC: Latest Details, Comments and Reaction
Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher and Pittsburgh coach Pat Narduzzi were reminded Sunday that when you publicly criticize officials, fines usually follow.
The ACC reprimanded both coaches for comments following their respective games over the past week. The conference fined Florida State $20,000 and fined Pittsburgh $5,000 for the two coaches violating its sportsmanship policy, per TheACC.com.
Narduzzi had a problem with pass interference calls (or a lack thereof) in his team's 39-36 loss to Virginia Tech on Thursday, while Fisher bemoaned an illegal block call that hurt the Seminoles in a 37-34 loss to Clemson.
After arguing against the chop-block call, which took away a long run by Dalvin Cook, Fisher shared his opinion about the officials.
"You hold coaches accountable, players accountable. Hold the damn officials accountable. It's garbage," he said Saturday night, per Matt Baker of the Tampa Bay Times.
Fisher described the ensuing unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty on the Seminoles bench as "even more garbage."
Meanwhile, Narduzzi seemingly took issue with the officials during the entire game against Virginia Tech, as George Schroeder of USA Today noted:
He also said after the game that the Hokies receivers "did a great job pushing off all night," per Chris Peak of Rivals.com.
The ACC wasn't willing to tolerate either coach's comments.
