European Championship Darts 2016: Scores, Results, Schedule After Saturday
Round 2 of the European Championship took centre stage on Saturday, as 16 became eight at the Ethias Arena in Hasselt, Belgium.
After a scintillating opening day that saw the likes of World Champion Gary Anderson knocked out and world No. 1 Michael van Gerwen taken all the way by Simon Whitlock, big things were expected from Day 2’s two sessions.
And once again the European Tour’s flagship event didn’t disappoint. Here’s a look at the scores from the round of 16 and a look ahead to the quarter-finals:

Saturday’s first session carried over all the drama from Day 1 and cranked it up a notch.
Kyle Anderson, who toppled Dave Chisnall in impressive fashion on Friday, once again had a routine day at the office, as he got the better of James Richardson, 10-4.
Mensur Suljovic and Ian White then served up one of the games of the tournament so far that went all the way to the wire.
The Serbian was sitting pretty on 8-3 after a lightning-fast start to the match, but White rediscovered his form and temperament to bring it back to 9-9.

However, Suljovic just found another gear, as he kicked off 140, 140, 137 to clinch the deciding leg without breaking a sweat.
Peter Wright also had to come through a gruelling battle to make the last eight. Snakebite locked horns with Cristo Reyes on Saturday, and despite showing glimmers of brilliance, he never really got going.
Wright missed double 12 for a nine-darter early on, but Reyes was also putting in decent performances and had his opponent on the ropes at times.
Even so, Wright was able to emerge victorious, 10-7. Following that ding-dong encounter, James Wilson served up the first shock of the day, taking out Mervyn King 10-9.

Wilson is into his first-ever PDC quarter-final thanks to that victory, although he’ll have his work cut out against an in-form James Wade.
Wade disposed of young German talent Max Hopp, 20, 10-3 in the third match of the evening session, having watched Jelle Klaasen and Phil Taylor book their respective places in the next round.
Klaasen put together an impressive display to see off Stephen Bunting 10-4, while Taylor went one better by disposing of Joe Cullen 10-3.

The main event of the day saw Van Gerwen take on Gerwyn Price to bring the curtain down on proceedings, and the Green Machine didn’t disappoint.
The 180s were flowing straight from the off, and in the third leg, Van Gerwen almost achieved perfection.
Two maximums set up the chance of a nine-darter with a 141 finish. The Dutchman hit treble 20 and treble 19 in the three-dart combination, only to pitch the remaining double 12 too high.

Either way, it was a statement of intent from Van Gerwen, who continued to bombard the trebles throughout the match.
As the world No. 1 continued to rattle in treble after treble and take leg after leg, Price’s confidence visually dropped, allowing Van Gerwen to breeze to a 10-2 triumph.
The back-to-back champion takes on countryman Klaasen in the quarter-finals to kick off his final assault on the trophy.
Elsewhere, Anderson takes on Wright, and Taylor locks horns with the impressive Suljovic, who is chasing his first major title.
