WWE SmackDown Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from October 18
With no pay-per-view to build to in the immediate future, SmackDown Live continued to find itself in a holding pattern of sorts, presenting another solid if unspectacular broadcast that featured a WWE World Championship match at the top of the card, a big Six-Man Tag Team bout, and the latest chapter in the ongoing saga of Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt.
Which of the brand's men and women emerged from Tuesday's show ready to roll into the heart of fall and Survivor Series a month from now?
| James Ellsworth | Winner | The most unlikely hero in WWE history may have served as a punching bag for AJ Styles but was the underdog babyface fans could invest in emotionally...and they did. |
| Alexa Bliss | Winner | Arguably the most well-rounded female performer in all of WWE, she scored another solid victory, in a strong match, over Naomi. |
| Tag Team Wrestling | Loser | With teams like American Alpha, The Usos, The Hype Bros and The Ascension conspicuous in their absences, it looks like The Spirit Squad is in line for a tag title opportunity. God help us all. |

Modern-Day Dream Matches 💭

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Biggest Winner: Carmella
The October 18 episode of SmackDown Live was not one of the brand's better offerings of late, but it featured another young star rising to the occasion and delivering when presented with the opportunity to do so.
Carmella has been an effective heel of late, feuding with Nikki Bella in a secondary women's feud that has featured some solid wrestling and even more impressive brawls outside the squared circle, but the Princess of Staten Island has been relatively undefined. She has not had the opportunity to talk or explain her actions.
She crossed one of those two things off her list Tuesday night, taking to the squared circle to verbally tear down Bella by discrediting every one of her accomplishments. She told her rival that everything she has is not the result of hard work but the result of those in her inner circle.
She spoke with conviction, and it was easy to believe that what she was saying was based on real emotions.
That she was allowed to walk away after verbally searing Bella was an even bigger compliment. WWE Creative finally put her in a position to be a legitimate heel rather than the opponent of the month for a more celebrated babyface.
Biggest Loser: Jack Swagger
Remember when Jack Swagger made the jump from Raw to SmackDown and everyone thought that meant a renewed push was in store for the former world champion?
Tuesday night, Baron Corbin picked him apart and put him down. Swagger was the victim of an End of Days that essentially ended any chance he had of achieving a substantial push on the blue brand.
When the Oklahoman returned to SmackDown, the opportunity was there for a major character makeover. The writing staff could have breathed new life into Swagger. Unfortunately, he was the same nondescript patriot he has been for the last three years, and the result was a reaction from fans based solely on his "we the people" catchphrase.
No one cared because it was apparent that WWE Creative stopped caring a year ago. What should have been a heated rivalry between two talented big men became a series of generic power-based matches won mostly by Corbin, who has a much brighter future ahead of him than Swagger ever did.
