Michigan vs. Rutgers: Live Score, Highlights for Wolverines vs. Scarlet Knights

Brian MarronOct 8, 2016

Michigan 78, Rutgers 0. Game Over.

Michigan finally played its first road game on Saturday, and it turned into the definition of a blowout as the Wolverines absolutely pulverized Rutgers in every facet of the game.

The Wolverines' starters only played one half of football with a 43-0 lead, but the backups nearly matched that score in the second frame. Quarterback Wilton Speight went for 100 yards and a score and was not great, but he definitely did not need to be.

Michigan finished the night with a staggering 481 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. Chris Evans led the team with 153 yards, but Karon Higdon, Tyler Isaac and defensive back Jabrill Peppers each contributed two scores apiece on the ground. Overall, the team averaged a whopping 8.6 yards per carry.

Where does one begin to talk about how much worse Rutgers was offensively? For starters, the team finished with 39 yards of total offense, which is half of the amount of points Michigan scored. The Scarlet Knights did not record a first down until midway through the fourth quarter, and they spent most of the night with less than zero yards of total offense.

Chris Laviano started the game for Rutgers, but he was pulled in the first half after going 1-of-8 throwing for six yards. Zach Allen then played the rest of the night, as he totaled minus-one yards passing on 10 attempts to go with 12 rushes for minus-six yards.

Michigan will have a bye week, where it can prepare for a matchup with an Illinois team that lost to lowly Purdue on Saturday. Rutgers will host the Fighting Illini next week, as the Scarlet Knights will try to pick up the pieces from what will likely end up being the most one-sided result of this season.
