WWE NXT Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights October 5
The October 5 episode of NXT kicked off The Dusty Rhodes Classic as tag team champions The Revival battled Cedric Alexander and Andrade Almas in the night's main event.
It was a strong main event to cap off what was another broadcast devoted to building toward the future.
Peyton Royce returned to the squared circle and wasted little time establishing herself as one of the top contenders to the women's title.
Rich Swann impressed, The Authors of Pain dominated and Samoa Joe wreaked more havoc while ruining the anticipated debut of a fresh new face.
Find out who emerged victoriously and what each result means for NXT going forward with this look back at Wednesday's show.
The Bollywood Boys vs. The Authors of Pain
1 of 5The Bollywood Boys may have gotten more offense in than a typical opponent of The Authors of Pain but the duo met the same fate in the first match of the 2016 Dusty Rhodes Classic.
They finished the cruiserweight team off with their leg sweep/clothesline combination for the pinfall victory in just over one minute.
Result
The Authors of Pain defeated The Bollywood Boys.
Grade

Analysis
This was not the strongest way to kick off the Classic, particularly because fans have witnessed the same old squash out of the team for months now. Yet, despite the poor grade and repetition of it all, there is something to be said about building a team up to be so indestructible and then beating them with a hot new babyface team.
That is the potential scenario facing NXT officials and fans and a result, makes for a more enjoyable and fun product.
Rich Swann vs. Patrick Clark
2 of 5
Fresh off a victory over Tony Nese on Monday night, Rich Swann returned to the squared circle as he battled former Tough Enough star Patrick Clark.
Clark looked to spoil Swann's return, planting him with a vicious spinebuster that allowed him to take control of the match.
Swann would recover and deliver a handspring moonsault for the pinfall victory.
Result
Rich Swann defeated Patrick Clark.
Grade
C+
Analysis
Swann has the ability to pack a ton of action in a short period of time, creating little doubt as to why he is one of the fan favorites in NXT.
This was a showcase for him. Though Clark looked good in the brief time he controlled the two-minute match; this was all about establishing Swann as an energetic babyface of NXT's bright future.
Danielle Kamela vs. Peyton Royce
3 of 5
NXT's answer to Poison Ivy made her return to the squared circle Wednesday as Peyton Royce battled newcomer, and Rikishi trainee, Danielle Kamela.
The match was all Royce as she worked a chinlock and withstood a spirited comeback attempt to put her away with a modified fisherman suplex.
Result
Peyton Royce defeated Danielle Kamela.
Grade
C-
Analysis
The match was nothing special, and Kamela looked like a rookie under the bright lights and in front of the WWE Network cameras, but it did serve to reintroduce Royce to the viewing audience.
Once considered one of the potential breakout stars capable of replacing Bayley, Charlotte, Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks, she inexplicably disappeared from television. Now back and ready to challenge Asuka, Ember Moon and friend Billie Kay for NXT women's supremacy, she has the potential to be the lead heel in a talented crop of competitors.
Dan Matha Debuts
4 of 5The massive Dan Matha was slated to make his NXT debut Wednesday night.
Samoa Joe had other plans.
Still fuming over William Regal's decision not to reward him the world title in the wake of injuries Shinsuke Nakamura suffered at the hands of Joe, he hit the ring and pummeled the newcomer, ruining his first chance to make a major impression.
Joe reiterated his declaration of war against the NXT roster and yelled at Regal on his way out of the ring.
Grade
B+
Analysis
Angry, vengeful Samoa Joe is one of the best characters in wrestling.
Watching him demolish competitors all in the name of proving a point makes for entertaining television and builds up a credible threat for a major babyface to eventually stand up to.
The interactions between him and Regal have been strong enough to make a potential showdown between them appealing.
Cedric Alexander and No Way Jose vs. The Revival
5 of 5Andrade Almas and Cedric Alexander appeared poised to do something American Alpha could not: beat Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson Wednesday night as the broadcast concluded with another Dusty Rhodes Classic match.
The flashy and energetic duo was rolling early, keeping the traditional brawlers off guard with their unorthodox offense and high-risk skill set.
Unfortunately for the babyfaces, the NXT tag team champions were able to isolate Almas from his partner.
A hot tag to Alexander turned the tide in Alexander and Almas' favor but in the end, the resourceful and opportunistic champions finished the former off with Shatter Machine to advance in the tournament.
After the match, Almas shockingly turned on Alexander, initiating a heel turn that has been weeks in the making. He soaked in the jeers of the audience following his brutal assault of the popular cruiserweight.
Result
The Revival defeated Andrade Almas and Cedric Alexander.
Grade
A
Analysis
This was a superb way to end the show. Not only was the match another outstanding addition to the champions' body of work, but it also featured a significant turn as Almas embraced his inner heel and attacked Alexander.
Fans were not reacting to the Mexican-born star the way most had hoped, even booing him against more interesting heels. Rather than forcing a round peg in a square hole, management made the wise choice and turned him.
The betrayal sets up what could be an extraordinary feud chock-full of strong in-ring action.
